U R in AC w/ $1500 to your name, can U survive?

Say you are dropped off in AC, and this is all you have to your name:

1) $1,500.00
2) a drivable Van w/ a full tank of gas and a comfortable/warm sleeping arrangement in the back.
3)Enough food (doesn't require cooking and does not spoil) for a month.
4)Clothes, toiletries, etc.
5)Cooler

Would you be able to survive in this city and build a BR w/ a relatively low risk of going busto?
1) Where would you play and what games?
2) How would you maximize the value of comps?
3) Where would you try to get an occasional room for a night w/ a poker rate?

Please keep suggestions and comments reasonable. Suicide (unless you go completely busto) is not an option, nor is getting a job.

Think of this as something like a reality show, maybe some degenerate version of Survivor; where you have to work within constraints laid out above. Lastly, blatant crime, nor outside sources of $$$ is NOT an OPTION!

What games do you know how to play? $1.5K seems a bit to risky to even SS NLHE, if you absolutely CANNOT go broke. If you play LO8, I'd suggest grind 2/4 (assuming you can find this game in AC) until you have close to $2K and can play in the Taj 5/10 game w/o worrying about $$$ too much. Not sure how long it will take you to grind out $500 in 2/4 though....

With no rent or food expenses (for the first month) this would be quite easy assuming you don't run bad at 1/2NL at the beginning.

:goodposting:

I would grind out 1/2 NL playing real nitty with a low buyin......maybe $100 or so.

No, you can not survive. You need to shower at some point. Toiletries and bathroom sink showers will only go so far.

Assuming you use your whole bankroll for poker, you only have 5 max buy-ins for 1/2NL. I do not see you wanting to spend almost 5% of your $1500 on a hotel room for 1 night.

I'm at work so I didn't put to much thought into it. Maybe I will after work.

Additional assumption: say I can go w/o showering 3-4 days, meaning I do not smell. Please, no unproductive comments, along the lines "your own s*** doesn't smell"! I am completely bald. And have an abundant supply of wet wipes. The plan is to try and at least have a room 2 times per week, assuming a Tropicana $30/night poker rate.

I do play, Omaha and Stud, hi-lo, besides NLHE... Is there a 2/4 LO8 game in AC? If so, where is it and how hard is it to beat the rake w/ ABC poker?

Re: U R in AC w/ $1500 to your name, can U survive?

When you say comfortable sleeping arrangement are you accounting for the fact that we are coming into winter and although it's not terrible in south jersey it does get cold enough to require some kind of heat to survive.

I'm also curious how you plan to bathe.

I guess if you are playing every day you should be able to get rooms during the week often enough to handle the cold/hygiene requirements.

You are pretty close to flirting with disaster though. Even at 1/2NL, which IMO is pretty tough to play for a living, you only have like three buyins, unless you plan to put your last meal worth of money on the table.

I think this would be a very tough challenge and if I was going to bet I would take the 'do not survive' or take the under at about 3 months.

Re: U R in AC w/ $1500 to your name, can U survive?

This probably should be in NVG, BBV, or some other off-topic forum, but here goes anyway.

I would play 3/6 LHE and 5/10 LHE @ Taj and 1/2 NLHE @ any Harrah's property. You would not be able to build a sustainable roll for living off long-term because you would not be able to move up. You couldn't expect to be able to put in any time studying the game itself or your sessions given your horrible living conditions.

I think I could outlast 75% of random people in this "reality show," but I think I would outlast only half or maybe even less of 2+2ers.

Finally, I think non-blatant crime would be a solid supplement to my roll.

Re: U R in AC w/ $1500 to your name, can U survive?

So is this a true hypothetical, or is OP going to try this?

I'd play the lowest limit game they spread and play 15 hrs/day until you ran up to like $3k, then play 1/2 NL.

A sleeping bag designed for freezing temperatures should be sufficient.

Please see above. As far as hotel rooms, any info on poker rates and locations will be much appreciated.

If playing NL, anything above a minimum buy-in is probably not an option, at least not until the BR is up to at least $2.5-3K.

Grinding under these circumstances, is far from "making a living". The objective is to survive, keep expenses as low as possible, and slowly build a BR w/ low risk of going busto.

At this point it's still hypothetical, but I want to keep this discussion as realistic as possible.

This is strictly a B&M affair, and I am afraid posting this anywhere else, would turn this thread into a complete circus.
