A lot of places do this. You ever try to walk into a restaurant right before closing? Sometimes they turn you away - not because they don't like making money, but because they probably have started to close for the night and have already cleaned things.

Like Dealer Guy said above, there could have been a bunch of reasons why they shut the game down due to personnel issues or other variables. It has nothing to do with not wanting to make money - it is a trade-off they make.

Just because they closed a table doesn't mean they are turning down money, even though that seems to be the conclusion you've drawn.

I agree that there are pros/cons to weigh and factors I'm not aware of, but I don't agree with the restaurant analogy. Instead of cooking one last cheeseburger, the manager can shut off the lights, lock the door and send everyone home. That's not the case in a casino. The only person who may or may not be able to go home would be one employee who I'm quite certain isn't costing the casino $100/hour.

This is the only reason that a business would not be sure to keep it's customers 100% satisfied. If I owned a card room I would do w/e the players wanted outside of extraordinary circumstances.

If they must close, best option is for the floor to say "hey guys I'm sorry, but I have to close this game. I can give you 30 more minutes if we don't get any players. Lets say 3:35".

I don't get why this isn't taught in Customer Service 101. So many people end up being dicks completely unnecessarily.

I mean, if you have to be a dick, you gotta do it, but if you don't have to, qhy go out of your way?

Bizarre they would do that.

Though I don't think you can play 60 hands per hour headsup. Dealer doesn't even semi-hand shuffle before putting it into the card shuffler?

Read the whole thread trying to see if you answered the tip or not question. If you were tipping this is insane. . the 2 dollars is really 3 as a buck a hand is pretty standard tip

Actually now you tell us that they usually break a game when it gets to 4 handed. If you play where they do that ..... why are you surprised when they break a heads up game?

Re: Any other casino prefer not to make money?

as mentioned, this is obv an IL room. the reason they do this is because ALL table games are considered the same in IL law, and there can only be a max number of table games running at any given time, so if people are waiting to play blackjack or whatever, poker tables will be shut down.

You see, the answer is a lot less inflammatory than thought. There are usually good reasons to do things, and disclosure to the public isn't always necessary.

These pit people will want to know why the poker room isn't closing tables to get dealers out (they are somehow oblivious to the fact that more games open meas more revenue).
I have heard in talking to floor people in the poker room that they have to pay a dealer for the entire hour even if they work 5 minutes of it (unions), so it makes more sense to close down a heads up table that could break at any time instead of paying that dealer for another guarenteed hour.

Other than that clarification, everything else you posted rings true based on my conversations. They have enough trouble finding dealers who want OT (since it's usually at the end of an 8 hour shift), and then when they do, they have to justify why they allowed OT.

I'm going to guess that this was not the reason .... after all this was 2 AM ......

Is it possible that the floor wanted to go home; acting in his/her own interest. Was the floor young or other indications/clues where he/she might make that decision?

Re: Any other casino prefer not to make money?

For me it's strange that they would charge you rake. I've played heads up numerous times at Wild Horse Pass here in AZ and floor always says that its fine, just make sure to tip the dealer as they are not clocked into the game. They allow us to play however we want.

I understand that that isn't the norm in most casino's but to have a game shut down that's being raked and the dealer is making tips just doesn't make sense. My day job is as a manager of more then 130 people and I understand the cost of cutting hours to cut on payroll and making sure all guests are being taken care of. This whole thing just doesn't smell right on all sides. From both the players account and the way the floors decision was handed down. As someone else above mentioned, I'm sure we don't have the "rest of the story" here.
