Actually, I was neither. The hand was played by a friend of mine, who was hero. I used "I" in one of my responses above just because it was easier than writing hero each time.

Well, I was in the 'check' camp, until it was pointed out that it was preflop. Unsure how much 'tanking' is really necessary preflop without a raise, and think that Hero just lost his hand.

Agree that rewinding action is awful, but that it's likely to be seen as 'fair' to a newbie. Yes, dealer and hero failed to protect the action. Yes, hero gets punished.

Dead hand. A player had time to raise, another had time to jam and 2 or so others had time to fold, but yet u claim to not know those were all out of turn? Those 4 actions dont happen within a 10 second timeframe, pay attention.

Yeah I didn't see the preflop aspect of it either. So that does change things for me as well. Since I didn't have the rule memorized, I'd kill their hand. Then I'd go look at the rule so I'd be better prepared.

Under the section Betting and Raising, RROP

12. To retain the right to act, a player must stop the action by calling “time” (or an equivalent word). Failure to stop the action before three or more players have acted behind you may cause you to lose the right to act. You cannot forfeit your right to act if any player in front of you has not acted, only if you fail to act when it legally becomes your turn. Therefore, if you wait for someone whose turn comes before you, and three or more players act behind you, this still does not hinder your right to act.

So in this case, he "may... lose the right to act."

What is "the right to act?" If this was something that would kill your hand, why wouldn't the rules say "their hand is dead" or something similar? I did some searching through the rules and can't exactly find a definition for the "right to act" so I'm really not clear on what the technically correct action would be. However I do agree with the general consensus here that the hand would be killed, due to failure to protect action.
