Is it possible to beat a 3/6 limit game? Is it possible to beat a 3/6 limit game?

Here you go, the 100% definitive answer to whether or not 3/6 limit is beatable...

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...-3-nl-1303247/

is it beatable? I guess but barely

is it the better use of your time as compared to 1/2nl? No.

1/2nl is superior in terms of your potential winrate vs 3/6 limit.

Play 1/2nl instead AINEC...

Obv the rake is important. If you play super tight that will help but you lose the marginally profitable situations. What kind of rake are we talking about?

I don't think anyone who prefers to play 1/2nl will disagree about 1/2nl vs 3/6l. I want to know what it takes to convince people who prefer 1/2nl to believe that 3/6 is a better use of their time as compared to slots or blackjack while waiting for a 1/2 seat.

It's simple math.

With correct play, the house edge in Blackjack is around 2%
The house edge in slots vary, but is usually set at 2%

3/6nl is (barely) beatable, so it is profitable longterm.

So profitable is better than not profitable, doesn't matter by how much...

Personally, I just bring a book with me to the casino or surf the internet on my smart phone while waiting for a no-limit game...

Note that gobbledygeek was a very good LHE player - probably could have beat 20/40+ if it were available - and he had a sweet rake situation.

Just because a game is beatable doesn't mean some random, bored 1/2 NL player is going to beat it.

LHE and NL are basically different games.

good point and re-enforces that your time is better spent at 1/2nl than 3/6 limit...

Hi calli, thanks for the shout out!

For the record: $1.94/hr (0.48 BB/hr) over 1,353 hours at 2/4 Limit, noting that of course I do not include my BBJ winnings in that total. But the vast majority of those hours were with a sweet $3 maximum rake + $1 BBJ + $1 tip, plus a pretty sweet lineup; increase the rake by a mere $1 and I'd be a losing player like everyone else. ETA: Also $7.09/hr (0.89 BB/hr) over smallish sample size 466 hours at 4/8 Limit (with kill), but again a super sweet rake ($3 + $1 + $1).

Overall, I agree with others that state low stakes Limit games are almost unbeatable, and if they are beatable, it is probably on par with picking pop cans out of dumpsters (although slightly more fun).

I believe the Orleans had that rake until recently, so it's not an unfindable fantasyland. The big difference between waiting at 3/6 rather than slots is that the money you lose beyond EV stays in the poker economy instead of going to the house. Plus there is less variance, as the total slot EV includes big jackpots that are seldom hit.

A guy got on the bus with three 6' bags of cans.

Me: "Wow, did you collect all those?"
Him: "You look like a cool dude, so let me let you in on a little secret. Friday afternoon, I just drop by these fraternities and be like, 'hey guys can you put all your cans in here?' and then I just show up on Saturday to cash it in."
Me: "Seriously? How much is this worth?"
Him: "It's about $150 for 3-4 hours work. But don't you try and crowd my turf."
Me: "Well, if the whole chemistry grad school thing doesn't work out, I just might. Ha, ha, ha!"
Him: "Ha, ha, ha ... no seriously man stay off my turf."

So yeah, basically, what I'm trying to say is that LHE up to like 15/30 carries some very serious opportunity costs. Aside from 1/2 NL, there's getting a second job or hell yeah bumfighting for recycling rights.

$42.86/hr recycling cans rate is expert, imo.
