The dealer is supposed to say that the bet is $150 to call, but the dealers are so used to dealing $300 pots that its just second nature for them to know what it's going to be to cap the pot.
This is because of OPTAH, and it's a good thing. As a player, it's on you to understand the dynamics of the game. If the pot's already at $200 and you bet $150 into me to put pressure on me to fold, wouldn't you be pissed if the dealer blurts out "$50 to cap"?

What a stupid rule. And I thought Florida's old $100 capped BI rule (even for 2/5+) was hideous.

it is how they do it here. but it slows the game down and most players will stall and count how much it takes to make the pot anyway. so if someone asks i think they should tell them. but not volunteer the info.

I know this is an old thread or it appears so, but in the local casinos in AZ spread limit games are getting to be very common and they are the bigger range games it seems so I do need help on learning this structure as well.

I am seeing a lot of
2-100 with a max buy in of 300
3-300 with a max buy in of 900
and even some 5-500 games with 1500 max buy ins

We do not have the 300 pot limit structure stated above though

We are not allowed NL in AZ so this is getting to the closest I see. Also with the limit on buy in it appears the games will play like low limit no limit games.
I found one book on the web on spread limit and it is very small and general in concept.

Is anyone out there to help me learn more on this topic the game is coming in stronger were I live

Az. and montana betting are not really related.
But in az. You play out as no limit as few are deep enough to have too many full bets in a hand. After making a max bet you most times are going in next time anyway.

This. AZ game is effectively short/medium-stack NL.

It's been 4 months since they raised the pot limit in Montana to $800. Games have definitely been better where I have been playing. How about people from other parts of the state?

Ya, and if player D calls, it would only be $50 per player to cap it.
Who gets the extra $1? 400-99=301

its now 800 but if the pot goes over they take the rake from the main pot and give back what is over. they take the extra dollar out of the pot and make each equal. its very easy and smooth.

Everyone would actually get a $34 rebate, so the pot would actually be $398, or $2 less than the maximum.

This is great. I didn't play much live because of the small pot limit. $1/2 is a lot more playable now. Hopefully some games are still around.

all the games are more playable. but also the old game of 300 pot had a lot of things that many never picked up on. but 800 pot plays like no limit more now.
however when we get the right player or two in the game all the pots are capped out anyway.

Does anyone know of a No Limit games in NW Montana? I know Casey has 1-2 on Saturday and Sunday, but is there anything other than the 5-40 limit game in Kalispell?

I'm going to be in Missoula next week and am curious if there any public games there, and at what limits/blinds? Thank you very much for the help!

There is $2-$5 NLH at Brannigans in Kalispell on Fridays nights. It is kind of hit or miss. They start at 4pm and game may or may not go very long.

Yea, the game plays like 1-2 game though and always has 2-3 house players just folding.

oh so wrong you are. the game plays bigger and only one house player plays very tight. and all the players including the house people play their own money.

some days like anywhere the game is very tight and tough. other days almost every pot is 800.

every day there are winners and losers over 1000 dollars.

Any recommendations for a game in Billings?
Is Gold Dust the best option?

The Jackpot Nevada is also an option. I believe they have a 2-6 spread game in the heights at Bugzys that sometimes turns into a NL game, and 3/6 limit downtown if you're looking for a game like that.

I was only referring to the No Limit game on Friday. Can't really speak to the limit games. I don't think the game can play bigger when you can only lose 80bb in a single hand, when in most casino you will find people 200bb deep at times. I should add the people that run the game are very nice and offer some of the lowest rake you will find anywhere. Go easy on me next time your in town Ray. You don't want to scare fish like me away.

if your posting here you cant be a fish so thats that.
let me know who you are if we play together.
if you play there you will find the games are much bigger than you think on many days and much looser.
