OTR, after bet & call, one card face up & one card face down. OTR, after bet & call, one card face up & one card face down.

This one seems to fluster me.

Heads up on river, bet call. Bettor tables two cards and I call out hand. Player 2 stares at his cards and floats them to the board. If nothing happened they would have floated face up but one card hits the table at an angle and now i've got one card face up and one face down. Usually i just ask if that was a muck? but not sure

I think asking in that case is fine.

Seems like an acceptable response to me.

If they were going to be face up, why a muck?

If they were going to be face down, and one flipped, they yeah, I'd confirm.

There was a time when I would just flip that card up, since it was clear he was tabling the hand and it just bounced wrong. But I got tired of the arguments later from people who got hung up on the "the dealer should not turn up the cards" so I started pushing the down card back to the player so he could flip it up.

The advantage to asking are you mucking .... is that in the unlikely event the player has a few functioning brain cells left .... they might just say "Hey the dealer thought I might be mucking .... my hand might have gotten mucked .... maybe I shouldn't throw my cards anymore." --- Ok its kind of far fetched .. but it could happen.

If they've been correctly tabled, why would they be mucked? Seems like a slimy angle to lobby that a properly tabled hand be ruled dead because a card inexplicably turns back over.

As a player:
If my opponent does this, and it looks like he was trying to table the hand...just turn the other card face up and give the pot to the best hand.
