New table or tables already running?

At my local casino I come across this situation and want to know what you prefer and why.

If you are offered a seat for a new table(new players) or a seat with a table that has already been running, which table do you select and why?

Re: New table or tables already running?

If there is no difference between the standard of players then I'd tend to go with the existing table as there's likely to be more money in play as players have rebought since the table started.
In reality, at the time I usually start playing (8-ish on Fri/Sat night) the existing tables are full of regs and the new ones are more likely to have the tourists/drunks so I'd opt for the new one and hope that everyone buys in full.

Re: New table or tables already running?

If im number 5-7 on the list then id like a new table. 8 players gets a table.

when your this deep on a list ive waited an hour to be seated. but most of the time it goes quick. I just want to get in a seat and see hands no matter what as fast as possible

I kinda grew out of the superstitious phase a long time ago, but theres just something I dont like about being seated in a seat thats still warm from a guy that just busted.

both ways have advantages...
I like new tables because no one has reads and we're all starting out even.
I also like sitting at old tables because of the larger stacks and tilt situations.

New tables , first choice, old tables often (not always) have at least 1 or 2 sharks or luckboxes with a wall of chips to deal with. I always take what's offered, however, and deal with it as best I can!

I pick the table with the overall best mix of worst players, most conventioneers and the fewest nit regs and visiting expert players.

Re: New table or tables already running?

A new table may have several players who are doomed to lose their stack in the first 45 minutes, while an existing table tends to have a higher concentration of successful players. The effect is enhanced greatly by must-moves, where the real fish rarely survive long enough at the must-move table to ever make it to a main game.

Re: New table or tables already running?

In an opened table, tilt/boredom/drunkenness has already set in.

Whenever I sit with new players at a new table it seems to be a nitfest until people crave action/drink whatever.

I always choose the existing table unless there is a clear cut advantage to the new table (known fish, or if existing table is full of good regs)

I always felt tables already running were the best choice since players are deeper and opening bets are usually increased. New tables tend to be nit at the beginning. On the other hand, new players may have been waiting a while and have the itch to gamble. I guess there is no clear answer.

Re: New table or tables already running?

In a vacuum I would take the new table. I would rather be part of establishing the table dynamics than being the lone "new player" for everyone else who happens to be paying attention to focus upon. There are a lot of factors that could sway the decision either way.

Isn't this the kind of player you want to play against? A bad player with a big stack?

If the stack is not too big yes, but you are assuming that I am some kind of poker whiz LOL and it takes a while to tell a shark from a luckbox too. I see your point, and it's valid for real good players, but at 1-2 1-3 I play ABC TAG only so a big stack can make me uneasy unless I really have good cards and position

Re: New table or tables already running?

New tables usually suck because even bad players play fairly tight for up to 1 hour. I like existing tables because people are on stuck, on tilt, tired, bored, deeper stacked, etc.

Unless its a small room where there is 1 game going filled with regs then of course you want the new table, its likely to have the more recreational players.
