Here's another suggestion:

Move to Philadelphia and commute.

IMHO AC is a dump par excellence, and unless you grew up in South Jersey moving there is going to be a major downer.

Re: move to ac to play poker professionally

The tolls and fuel costs are going to have to factor into a commute from Philly, unless you'd plan to play at Parx and Chester quite a bit.

I'd recommend if you choose AC to not stay in AC. The winters along the shore can be rough, so I wouldn't suggest living in Ventnor City, but Abescon or Egg Harbor would be OK.

Pleasantville is more of a dump, but has alright areas and Linwood or Somers Point have some nice parts.

AC is no place you want to live, unless you enjoy being surrounded by crack whores and homeless people. I almost moved there a few years ago...so glad my gf talked me out of it. I now play the majority of my hours at parx, which is about 20 miles north of Philly. The Borgata is still the nicest poker room on the east coast, but the action at parx is plentiful, and the commute is convenient from Philly or central/south Jersey.

Why move there? Why not just do short stays each week?

As a former commuter to AC from Philly, I never go anymore now that Chester (soon to be renamed Harrah's Philadelphia) and Parx have opened...action is ultra-soft, and Center City has some of the best restaurants/nightlife and general culture outside New York.

If you told me I could make $250k a year guaranteed if I moved to AC I wouldn't consider it for 2 seconds. Ultra poophole.

I dont think I've ever been to more of a dump than AC. As bad as it is, isn't it getting worse from nearby states opening new casinos?

Re: move to ac to play poker professionally

When you say 'move to ac' do you mean IN AC or just close enough to commute to work every day?

As others have stated, AC isn't a nice place to be once you leave the properties but there are nice areas well within driving distance on a daily basis.

imho, i would never move to ac to play professionally unless the borgata comps me with rooms 7 nights a week haha

you can deff find better parts of the country, Florida,Vegas,California should be much better living cause ac is just a seedy depressing unsafe area to play.

Yea I was haha. I was rebuilding my roll at that point since I dumped it all previously. I live in NY and the card rooms all have giant rake. Borgata always has at least 10 tables of 1/2 and 5 tables of 2/5 at any given time. Id like to be near a card room instead of taking a four hour round trip drive or playing in games that are grossly overraked. Parx is 1.5 hours away from me, I have yet to check it out, but I love the borgata.

parx has alot of action, you should deff check it out.

go on the weekends, there's up to 15-20 1-2's, 5-7 2-5$s and up to 3 10/10$ games, it can get busy which means there has to be a good table.

where in NYC do you live?

I absolutely agree with you, the card rooms in NY all have obscene rakes plus the threat of being robbed or raided, but moving to AC itself may not be the answer. Your best bet might be living 15-20 miles north in a nice area and commuting.
