Related to last, People on tilt. Who doesn't enjoy the show.
Even if you think 80% scumbags, that leaves 20% interesting, intelligent people you would otherwise never have met.
Poker is fun, and meant to be played live.
I've met plenty of nice people playing poker. In my experience, the split is not 80/20 in favor of scumbags. Granted, I don't play in a big city very often (exposing my bias, I suppose). And I've only played 1/2 NL where there aren't a bunch of sharks trying to eat everyone else. A lot of people just playing for some amusement at that level. I agree with most of your points. Players on tilt can be funny, but sometimes they get to a point that it's just uncomfortable...or sad to see someone getting THAT upset over something that is supposed to be fun. A table with a good mix of people who will talk to each other and banter and be friendly...that's a fun time. Definitely worth going to the casino for.
Though there is a lot to enjoy about a good game of poker, I like trying to figure out the puzzle of what people are doing and how I need to play against them in order to best them--and playing live there is a lot more information available from a people reading standpoint...it's not all math and ranges. Obviously winning money is nice, but it's really just the score. I like the competition. I can have fun playing the game for very small stakes. All it takes is a group of people who are trying to win to make it enjoyable.
