Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

2/5 NL.

4 people were all in on a board of 456.

Pot is about $1300 or so, I'm not entirely sure.

Final board runs out:

456k5 or something like that. The board definitely paired on the river.

Everyone shows except one guy. 78 off loses to 78 which in turn loses to QJ.

Last guy still holding cards says "what do I need to beat?" Someone tells him "He has a flush, you need to beat a flush."

Guy stares at his cards (without showing) for 15 seconds, then mucks them in disgust.

The pot gets pushed and all the cards are mucked and dead and as the guy who mucks is walking away he says "Can you believe that, I flopped a set of 4's."

Hero "Um . . ."
Guy next to me "Shut up, don't say ANYTHING."

I think 2p2 has been spreading its magic. From tonight....
"I read online that Q7 wins more than any other hand."

my river bet is called and i table JJ. my opponent tables her KT thinking that her 3 kings beat my 3 jacks. (she stops the dealer as he's pushing me the pot to point this out.) the dealer explains that i have a full house, which beats her 3 kings.

"you're lucky that board paired or my 3 kings would have won."
LOL, totally reminds me of this:

Really amazing when you consider that several well-known pros were clearly involved in the making of the video.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

So playing the WSOP daily donkstack today. Blinds are 600/1200/200 ante. Older guy raises UTG 10K. Folds to me in the BB and think briefly before folding the A face up. He says "It would be really unlucky for you if you hit top pair. there." He later comments on how you have to raise big with Aces so they don't get cracked.

A few hands later, I am in the hijack with KK. I raise 2.5x to 3000. French girl checks my stack (25K) before shoving all in. She has me covered by about 8000. I snap call and she tables Q8. Flop comes with 8 Turn is Q. I miss 8 outs on the river and am busto. My neighbor says to me "You only made it 3000. That's what happens when you slow-play kings." I thank him for his advice as I grab my coat.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

Playing 2/5 PLO at local dog track in FL which was playing super big playing 9 handed probably 40k on the table. One guy who says he travels all the time to vegas to play in plo game is heads up with me. Board Runs out 4 hearts I have k10 hearts for second nuts. Bet big on river and guy calls with AAxx ace of hearts only . Dealer starts pushing me pot and guy says I have nut flush. Dealer says you have to use two cards. He said I am using both my aces dealer says thats fine but than you dont have flush. He argues for a couple mins saying yes I do have A of hearts. Took a floor to come over and explain to him if he uses his aces he only has 4 hearts.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

Is this in Naples, FL? I've played there a few times and seen big PLO games running. Didn't know they had donks like this playing. Only one PLO table in the whole place so I didn't expect to find people that don't know the rules.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

A guy calls a raise in a HU pot, looks at the dealer and says "IF I win this pot I'm giving half of it to you"

Sure enough the dude wins and gives half the pot tothe dealer (about $150)

Posting from table right now while still fresh, had a young working professional sit down, suit and tie, basically young yuppie. Anyways buys in and promptly Crosses himself at the table. I'm all for freedom of expression and religion. I couldn't care less what anyone else wants to believe.

but I have to believe that the supposed creator of the universe would busy himself with looking after a1/2 game.

Ymmv of course

"I only think about my cards. I don't even try to think about what other people have because they don't play right and it's hard to figure out. So if I just play off my own cards they can't screw me up."

The same guy

"Pot odds aren't the same if you have a strong hand. If you are getting 6-1 but you have a hand like top pair that's better than a flush draw, so you're getting like 3-1"

Something like that.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

Just posted this in another forum. Villain never did explain his thinking, but really, were words necessary?

Just when I thought I'd seen everything...

1/3 NL, $335 effective stacks, it's folded to me in the CO so I raise the mighty 3 2 and get called by the BB.

Flop A 8 2 because I've been working hard on flopping the world on blind steals. He checks, I bet $20.

He check/minraises to $40.

I have a feeling this is a "where am I at? raise", so I tell him by 3betting to another $110 on top.

I have $170 left, so he, of course, 4bet minraises again to another $110 on top.

Well, the gig is up, but I shove the rest of my chips in and hope that it's a coin flip and that I win.

And he...

Tanks. The pot is $610, it's $60 for him to call my 5bet, and he's in the tank. He tanks for 2 full minutes before finally... folding.

Awesome. The ol' 4bet/fold play (with two minraises at that). I show the 3 for fun.

Had something kind of similar.

I c/r him on the turn expecting him to ship, but he flatted then folded for his last 50 when the pot was around 400.....

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

Ridiculous NL game in a foreign casino. Pretty high stakes for the ridiculousness, around 3-6US$.

Hand 1:

I limp UTG with 77.
UTG+1 shoves his short stack, 25BB.
MP (passive, scared money) tanks and calls (150BB behind)
BTN (huge fish, massive stack going up and down like crazy) calls and looks super weak.
I shove my 100BB

As expected, MP folds
BTN tanks for a few seconds, looks at me straight in the eye and says: "I thinks you only do that with nothing, you trap with good hand! I have a read! I am better! I am ahead! Yes! I have best hand! Yes! I call!

Btn proudly turns over 86o

Hand 2:

Later, with an interesting addition. Some old guy who looks on coke decides to open to any amount from 10x to 30x (random fistfuls of chips), every time it's folded or limped to him pre. 100% of the times, for over 4 orbits. He theorizes about his 'strategy': "like that I can't be bluffed. If you call I know you're ahead."

wtf?

Never seen so much limp-raising. He gets stacked multiple times, but happily rebuys: "my technique is good but with a lot of roller coaster"

He manages to crack people's monsters 2 hands in a row and the game is getting super deep.

All of a sudden, out of the blue, he.... limps!

Long story short, he looses a 500BB pot, some guy cracks his aces with a random 2 pair.

He is super furious and rages out, mumbling about how retarded all of us were.

When people say online poker is rigged, and say it in a way as if they are giving you this very sacred valuable information...
