Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

was playing 1/2 PLO other day i get dealt qqj10 rainbow utg+1(or +2) raised to $15 max.
tightest player(nice guy) at the table reraises to $50, folds to me , i take about 15secs and say " i know u got aces, nice hand" and open muck my hand. 2 nits at my table erupt and give me a pep talk about how i should have shoved my entire stack of $150 because a: i have a great hand vs AA and b: its only $150

needless to say that $150 i saved here made $1200

BTW, I'm also not quick enough to think up an answer on the spot that: -
  • a) doesn't tap the tank
  • b) isn't rude to the fish (we want him to enjoy playing live and want to come back again).
This weekend I'll be better prepared with standard answers that tick both boxes!
u can tap the tank all night long, these guys never learn, and he will be making this call for the next 20 years. ive been playing with some guys for 15years and they still play the same.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

Playing 2/4 NLHE in a casino:
A guy telling the whole table that he's a mathmatician and that everything in poker is basically 50/50.
When asked to elaborate he said:

"Everyone has the same odds to get good cards preflop, right?"
Yes...

"..and everyone has the same odds to get bad cards preflop, right?"
Yes.......

"Well there you go! so in the long run, everything in poker is 50/50, you either get good cards or bad cards, it's all about statistics."

Nobody said a word.

^Similar to last night last night at a 2/2 NLHE at the local poker room:

"Poker is just a game of luck. 100%. Pure. Luck. Takes no skill whatsoever... Now Chess... that takes skill."

/facepalm

Qc 3c was ahead on the flop and behind on the turn, so this doesn't seem so absurd. Maybe using the term 'outs' isn't exactly right, but it seems clear to me that Q3 guy knew he was ahead for at least some of the hand.

Re: Most absurd poker "thinking" you have heard in a live game?

I just heard this explanation from someone:

"I knew he didn't have a flush because the table is full, if there was only 5 players on the table he probably has the flush, because whenever there's lots of people on the table you never get flushes but as soon as there's only a few people you see flushes all the time"

please please please let me have a flush against him in a FR game.

Live 1/3 NL, table down to 5 people. I asked the floor for a rake drop. Floor agreed, but cautioned that the table wouldn't be eligible for the BBJ or other promos with the dropped rake. Table decided to pay $4+1 instead of $2 max rake.

A couple times when that happened to me at Monte Carlo I just packed up and left. Ridiculous policy. And that has a lot to do with why I haven't played at MC in a couple years. I voted with my feet.

Floors ruling is absurd, and I'm not surprised by the rest of the tables decision.

I'm always shocked how conscientious players are of the BBJ/how important it is to them.

If people made rational decisions regarding BBJ's state lotteries would be out of business.
