Re: M8trix Casino (San Jose, CA) hype thread
The Bad:
The food sucked big time and took a really long time to deliver. My French fries were ice cold. One guy wanted his money back on his noodle soup which took over an hour to deliver.
The waitresses are still getting used to the remote “iPad type” ordering system. Once they get up to speed it might improve.
Parking sucks. I used the valet for 10 bucks. it is a good deal rather than trying to find an open space.
The Ugly:
There were only 13 poker tables and the waiting lists were humungous. One guy waited 2 hours for a 5-5-10 seat.
All the California table games were full all night leaving no table to open for poker or run a tournament.

Nice looking casino (not that I care in the slightest), terrible set up for poker. Long waits and there's not a poker room..The tables for poker were placed where ever they had available space..The California games take priority in every possible way..
BTW..Did anybody else notice the bug spray smell?

Yes they had fragrance like the Venetian only 10 times stronger. It was horrible.
Good point about the poker table placements. I have people standing behind me all night long. Also the only cashier is all the way at the back of the room so it took a really long time for the chip runners to deliver.

I'm guessing the place will be swamped for the next month. One thing I'm not going to miss about Bay 101 is the strip mall feel and some of the tables are down right nasty: ripped fabric, dirty, etc.

GC only had 15 cash tables and I've heard that Matrix isn't having tournies so the difference is one table. Likely, Matrix is just busier than it will be due to the opening. The fact that they have a 5 5 10 is good news as it never went at GC.

There are a couple of differences.
1. When GC had 15 tables running, a) there were usually very short lists. b) there were other unused tables that they could open new games or start a tournament. M8trix has no other unused poker tables. They are all Cal game tables, so there is no way to reduce the waiting lists.

Re: M8trix Casino (San Jose, CA) hype thread
Arrived in the afternoon, stayed there until late evening.
It's tough to gauge how things will go, simply because many wee there just checking the place out. Many walking around, having a drink, couples hanging out. Definitely a very large turn-out. Okay.
Parking is limited, and fills up quickly. Even on average days, I would imagine parking will be an issue. Valet is a bit much at $10, $5 would be much more reasonable.
Poker layout is awful. Its in the front of the room, no real symmetry to it. They should have designed a nice poker section, but didn't. 14 tables, all packed. They did spread a 75-150 game on a Cal game table, seemed to run just fine. Lists were huge. The game I played was juicy, so well worth it if you can get a seat.
I didn't mind the smell, no problem with it.
Getting chips took forever, they need to set up a portable chip station or something.
Food service was OK, food hit and miss. Food prices a bit steep.
I'll give them time to work out the bugs. It was the first day, an unusually large crowd from what we can expect under normal circumstances. I would imagine that Cal games will get less use, and when more tables sit empty, many more poker games will be spread.

Re: M8trix Casino (San Jose, CA) hype thread
I played last night. Got there around 10 or so, played until 1am in the 5/5/10.
My thoughts:
It's a lot nicer / more upscale than Bay and certainly the old GC.
The smell was too strong. It was like a lavender or some floral like scent. It wasn't terrible, just too strong, IMO.
They need more chip runners, or chip running stations. The cage is waaay too far from the poker room. Chips routinely took 10min to get to a player so we were making change...just annoying.
Didn't have any food, but it's nice to have a decent walk up option to get a quick bottle of juice/soda or a quick sandwich, etc...
They were spreading a 75/150 limit game on one of the Cal tables, so that is encouraging that they will expand poker as needed.
They had a 20/40 O8 game with a half kill to 30/60, plus a full 5/5/10 game which has been tough to get going at Bay since the WSOP.
I spoke with a few of the regular 5/5/10 guys and they said that the game would likely be at M8trix for a while.

Re: M8trix Casino (San Jose, CA) hype thread
What was the breakdown of the other tables?
Did they spread any of the following and if so, how many tables of each?
1/2 ($200 cap)
2/3/5 ($500 cap)
2/3/5 ($1K cap)

when I was there, there was one or two 2/3/5 ($500) and a big interest list for the deep stack. Not sure about the 1/1/2

Re: M8trix Casino (San Jose, CA) hype thread
Sounds like this place is officially open for business. Anyone can feel free to start a thread in the Poker Venues Forum. It would be great if someone who has visited could make an FAQ for it to go in the OP and either post it as the threadstarter or PM me with it. Thanks!
