Cordish Cos. & Penn National, owners of MD Live! Is planning to build a $750 million upscale hotel and casino in Orange County, NY a few minutes away from Woodbury Commons premium outlets mall.

The casino is waiting on the approval of their license but the plans so far look amazing.

If they do poker as good as they do in MD Live!, this is going to be an amazing place to play poker.

Wow. About an hour north of me. Sick.

I've been to MD live. Overall, nice looking casino except for the poker room which is in two floors.

It mentions poker in their website

"Live! Hotel & Casino New York will include over 3,000 of the latest state-of-the art slot machines and 270 live action table games, including poker."

Any idea when the winner might be announced?

Turns out Sterling Forest Resort in Tuxedo, NY would be closest for me (about 45 minutes) but Live!, Hudson Valley Casino and Resort and Caesars are only about 15 minutes further.

there will be 4 licenses issued, one in each region with two in the catskills/hudson valley.

What the state realizes is the closer the casino is to NYC, the higher the tax revenue it will generate, which is why Caesars and Live are going to be among the top contenders.

Licenses will be announced this fall.

Thanks for sharing. Fingers crossed.

Either Live! or Caesars would be good for me. Between the two, hard for me to choose which I would like better.

On Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 2 p.m. the New York Gaming Facility Location Board will be holding a meeting in which they are scheduled to announce who will be awarded a license to start construction on the properties.

They will be selecting up to two in each region (including the Hudson Valley Region of which Live Hotel & Casino New York will be located, who are in competition with Caesars NY in the same area, near the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets outdoor shopping mall.

Since this is a little over an hour's drive from midtown Manhattan, this poker room should be one of the busiest in the country. I am hoping Live will be able to move forward with their plans as soon as possible.

If anyone is interested, the meeting will be streamed live online.

No problem just a correction they will not "award" a license they will announce who they choose to start the gaming license application process and move forward with their plans to build a casino.

Live and Caesars have announced big poker rooms as part of their plans so keep your fingers crossed.

they chose the Montreign casino resort at the former Concord resort near monticello http://www.montreign.com. no mention of poker on their website but it's further upstate anyway.

this looks like the worst plans of them all, but it's owned by Empire Resorts who already operate the racinos

They decided that approving any casino in Orange County will affect the race track casinos around nyc as well as the other casinos approved in new york state. However, the Montreign is owned by the owners of the Monticello Race track / casino.

you can never trust people in politics, money is king always.

What a tease, that's the worst location possible, no mention of poker (can it be possible that they would build a 1 billion+ project without poker?). In some sense it's justice because this was originally supposed to be for the Catskills region but if they were going to categorically deny Orange County bids and award only 1 license then why mess with people's expectations, /butthurt.

I cant even believe this. I have been waiting for this day for along time and cant believe how there most likely will not be a poker room in Monticello. Does anyone think there is any shot of there being a poker room in future here? I looked at there layout and there clearly looks like there will be no poker at all but would like to somehow get this verified? Anyone else praying to the poker gods some how someway they try to include poker??

The corporate website for Empire has a phone number and a list of contacts and a link to email them.

I tried to email them on their form but it said "validation error" so I will call them tomorrow when the office is open.

It's an hour's drive from me, only 20 min less than sands or parx. I really wanted an orange county approval. my next chance of a local poker room would be the meadowlands

Casinos with large poker rooms (Borgata, MDLive) generate at most 5-6% of their revenue from poker.

With the poker boom leveling off and increased competition between cardrooms, I can see why a new casino would pass on including piker.
