How Many Hours Can You Play A Day Live?

How many hours can you play live and still play well?

I sometimes do some really long sessions but I think I play too long sometimes as it gets harder to concentrate and play your best the longer you play.

I think 8 hours is the most I can do and still play well. If I play longer I tend to make loose calls and my judgement goes off.

I've heard of pros doing spells of playing about 12 hours a day though.

Re: How Many Hours Can You Play A Day Live?

I think when I start off playing well, it encourages me to keep playing my a-game longer. I've had 18 hour sessions where I felt I was profitable the whole way through, but after that amount of time, I feel that my body starts to die, so I quit.

Re: How Many Hours Can You Play A Day Live?

I regularly play 7-8 hours at a time without any hassle, many times after working 8 hours that day.

When I'm on vacation I'll play 12-16 hours a day, for 4-5 consecutive days. (Think Vegas, start at 11a, play until 3-4a) The trick to staying on top of your game is to take breaks for food, and to get up and move around.

Re: How Many Hours Can You Play A Day Live?

I can play my A-game for about 6 hrs

Then I fall to my B-game for about another 6hrs max and then I stop

But I think you are asking the wrong question. Its not 'how long' can you play but how long you 'should' play.

What i've done is i've identified all of my precursors to bad play, some precursors I allow myself 3 occurrences before i'm done, my own personal 3 strikes and your out rule...

For instance

When I make a donk -EV play (regardless if I lose or not)

but I have some precursors that are 1 strike and i'm out such as

If I nod off tired even for an instance, i'm done
If I forget my hole cards while in a hand and have to relook, i'm done
If I get emotional or upset for any reason, i'm done...

To date, I rarely if ever play more than 10 hrs before I trip the above "bad play" meters...

I can't tell you how much money the above (and host of other rules) have saved me

I hit and run so I won't get burned out. I am at the casino everyday. Gotta have a balance with life.

Speak for yourself, yesterday I played 28 hrs in a day. True story.

But actually, with daylight savings time, its capped at 25 hrs in a day

Re: How Many Hours Can You Play A Day Live?

If my bankroll is low and I am in bad physical shape I will play maximum 6 hr sessions generally.

If my bankroll is large and I am in good physical shape(ie running every day) I can easily play 10-12 hours.

I heard Jeffrey Lisandro say that he never plays more than 8-10 hrs after waking up, unless hes in a tournament. I pretty much try to keep that in mind except when i am winning.

Long days are inevitable for live tournaments, too. It's why Dan Harrington says old men will not fare as well vs younger competition in events such as the WSOP main. When you're older you lose that physical endurance to some extent.

I play my A game for about 15 minutes, then I lose it and fall apart.

Crikey - I'd last ten minutes per session, but I have a feeling my A game is your C

24 AINEC I believe my A game kicks in at about the 4 hour mark when I start getting a good feel for the, players and game flow. Obviously shorter if I am getting coolered, but the longer the better for me.
