I suspect if he had failed to sign the document the casino would be even more annoyed at him. Cooperating with your 86'ing probably makes it more likely that you'll be able to get it lifted later. Telling 'em to kiss your hairy heiny when asked to play along strikes me as unlikely to be viewed as a plus.

Obviously you do need ID in certain cases if you want to participate in certain activities. You have nobody but yourself to blame if you go to buy booze, see an R-rated movie, visit a casino, rent a car, fly a plane, use a credit card, blahblahblah and you don't have ID. But "real legal troubles?" Like... what? There aren't any laws I know of that require you have ID with you at all times.
In NV, there is a statute that says you have to have a DL with you at all times when operating a motor vehicle. But it also says there is no penalty for not having it if you can later produce it. So no, you don't actually have to have it with you at all times, but it can inconvenience you if you don't.
