Horseshoe Casino (Baltimore, MD) HYPE thread Horseshoe Casino (Baltimore, MD) HYPE thread

A difference might be that MDL casino had been open for a full year before the poker room, so general operations were ongoing. Shoe is an entirely new building and operation.

Out of curiosity - when does this thread go from "hype" to an actual venue? Or does a new one get created once the venue actually opens?

Once cards are in the air, anyone can open a PV subforum thread. The original post should contain an FAQ which has all publicly available information about the room. If you want to put in the work to make a great first post, send Lattimer or me a PM so we can make sure that the best first post is the "official" one.

It'll be a contest. The winner gets to be the OP of the new thread forever; the losers get shamed and ridiculed.

Yes! Maybe even a shameful undertitle for the worst submissions.

I'm just saying the parts of Pigtown near the Horseshoe are not anywhere near as bad as pretty much everyone here thinks. I am NOT talking about the Hollins Market area which I'm not familiar with.

If you're working at or planning to use the Horseshoe as your "home" casino in which to play every day, you could do a lot worse than living in Pigtown...especially for the money you'll pay to rent/buy.

Second Chance relocated and is still doing well. Also, from what I can tell, they are partnering with investors to create some sort of mega-bar in one of their old warehouses a couple blocks N from the Horseshoe.

Also, other developers are reviving the Hammerjacks brand and opening another mega-bar a few blocks NW from the casino. It looks like the whole area is going to a large entertainment hub in a few years.

I think I'd rather have this than the honor of the first post.

I'm gonna start drafting my horrible submissions right away!!

I doubt there will be any tournaments the first month the casino is open. Perryville and Delaware Park have been running low buy in tournaments and I'd like to see the Horseshoe to the same. There is a definite market for it but if they can fill the tables with cash games, it won't happen.

Not too much info on the web page, but I did find this that explains the parking some.
http://www.caesars.com/baltimore/hotel/parking.html

Basically, it says that parking is free in the garage, except during football games. There is a chart that lists the Ravens home games, plus 2 games for Navy (Ohio St on Aug 30, Army on Dec 13).

I wonder if they will offer shuttles from the metro or light rail. Would be nice not to drive.

Still no nighclub, so you not going to see lots of drunk fish after 2AM.
07-29-2014 , 03:43 PM
You think people are going to find it hard to find a drink???

Um...you're joking, right?

There are 1,440 minutes in a day and 14Forty at Horseshoe Baltimore is open for every single one of them. 14Forty at Horseshoe Baltimore raises the nightlife standard within the city of Baltimore, serving drinks around the clock. Horseshoe’s three level feature bar is right in the center of the action, where you’re always surrounded by 360 degrees of excitement.
Not to mention the hordes of douchey frat boys who strike out in Fed Hill, as well as all the Power Plant kids filtering in after 2 am...

I'm curious when we'll hear some details on the poker room. I'd be surprised if the rake isn't very close to what Maryland Live currently offers. They wouldn't make as much money by having a lower rake, and would be at a competitive disadvantage to have a higher rake than ML.

My biggest curiosity about Horseshoe is - what is the lowest limit hold'em game that will be offered? I'm sure there will be a bunch of 1/2 NL Hold'em games, and probably some 2/5. Whether some of the other games run will depend on what players want to play (PLO, Omaha/8, Stud, mixed games, and mid-limit LHE). I'm sure if there are players, games will be run.

I often play 4/8 Limit Hold'em at Maryland Live, which is fun, even though it can be difficult to beat the rake. I'd prefer to play higher, but I'm not bankrolled for the 20/40 game, and the 10/20 died out. Delaware Park offers 2/4 LHE and Charlestown has 3/6 and somehow they keep getting players.

From reputable sources......

1-3nl 100-500
2/5nl 200-1000

Also pm me would love to start a 10/20 or 15/30 holdem game.....can do without a mixed game cuz dealers will be bad but maybe on a thur/fri get a decent size limit game going I know a few people that would prob commit 1 day a week!!!

Personally I don't like the table max on 1/3 and 2/5

No 1-2NL?

Its part of the Total Rewards system from Caesars:

I believe others in this thread have talked about point earning for different poker games already.

Jimmy,

I've been 20+ years in the business. I was last in St. Louis, before that was Delaware and The Venetian. As far as different from the other rooms we have some innovative ideas that we have put together for the Baltimore market.

+1 to not being that close to the Inner Harbor.

Regarding security, can anyone comment on the walk to/from Federal Hill via Ostend. I tentatively plan on walking in the daytime and cabbing back at night.

Daytime is fine. The area east of Russell Street is okay, with the exception of Hamburg-Hanover-Ostend-sharp "box." But even that's okay in the daytime. I wouldn't freak out about being near there at night, unless I had $$$ in my pocket. And staying on Ostend, the worst part is the post office I suppose?
