Ex 30+ year smoker with a 2 pack a day habit here.

My Quit Counter says it's 11 months, 12 says and 11 hours since I last had a cigarette. I've not smoked 8687 cigarettes, and saved £3,128, and increased my lifespan my 30 days since giving up.

But your comment *really* made me want a smoke.

Ahh ****, I just quit 2 weeks ago, was wondering how long the cravings would last...

Sorry for derail. For what it's worth I wouldn't care if somebody smoked an e-cigarette at my table, but most of my live poker experience is home games in smoke filled front rooms, so I guess I might be more tolerant than the average guy.

My thoughts are that they should be allowed. There is no carbon monoxide and the only nicotine in the liquid which gets atomized into vapor and inhaled. I have never heard of someone catching a smoking addiction from purely second hand smoke so since there is no carbon monoxide I can't imagine how and e-cig would be harmful at all and pose a threat to giving someone close by a nicotine addiction habit.

When I first started bringing them into poker rooms and the casino (sometime in 2011) I had no problem using them. The floor and personnel didn't have a problem with them. Nowadays they are more weary and I can't personally see any threat to be honest or any potential threat. But the general response when casino personnel sees me smoking it in a non-smoking poker room is to stop me basically because they don't know how safe it is (Showboat told me they would turn a blind eye though). Like I said, I don't see a threat with only water vapor and it's hard to believe it could get someone addicted to nicotine who is close by. But there is some understanding to their argument. The e-cigs are new and they aren't even passed by the FDA yet. There is some talk from legislators that they want to regulate it because it contains nicotine. People fear what they don't know and e-cigs are still relatively new and unregulated.

Pretty much true.

If anyone disagrees, that's up to them. I'd say, "prove it" You'd say, "prove that it does." I'd say, "I don't have to."

If smoking is not permitted, that's all that there needs to be sai. It's the same thing.

I'm done here because I realize that some people will make any excuse to justify their drug addictions.
I don't think there is any proof that there is smoke and all the proof to say it is water vapor. The tested dangers of these things to second hand people not using them nearby is unproven totally because they have never really been tested. But the natural assumption is weighted heavily to assume that they are for the most part by and large harmless.

I quit smoking at the end of June. And the e-cig has helped me massively with the oral fixation of smoking and the curtailing the nicotine habit. I use the gum too. But it's better to see e-cigs around than real cigarettes and they are a great crutch to quitting. I hope to stop using nicotine altogether after another 2 or 3 months. I have fallen off the wagon a few times already but coming from a 2.5 pack/day habit, I am happy to pat myself on the back at my progress. Eventually I'll be nicotine free. And the e-cig is helping me do it.

Actually, I was joking. His comment made me miss the things I enjoyed about smoking, but I didn't really get any cravings.

FWIW, I quit smoking using Champix and had no real cravings at all. I've never had any success with nicotine replacement therapy -- and I've tried it all, repeatedly -- but Champix is a miracle drug as long as you don't get any side effects.
