guy accidentally goes all in for 250BB

Player at my 1/2 has said "i bet $500" probably 8 times earlier in the night.

He shows up in the SB and the BTN straddles. somebody at the table tells him jokingly "you haven't bet $500 lately". player jokingly says "ok I bet $500". [B]at which point he notices the straddle and says I was kidding./B] looked like dealer was going to let it slide, but another player shouts "verbal is binding" and the dealer uncomfortably throws the all in card to the player......

Question is, what if the Supervisor comes and the players at the table agree that it was an honest mistake and he was kidding around?

I vote for letting him take it back. This is not a game of tripping up over technicalities. The rules are there to protect us from those who would treat us unfairly, not a tool with which to do the same.

However, he gets a punishment. His punishment is a warning that he needs to treat jokes about poker at a table the same he does jokes about bombs at an airport, and that next time he might not get so lucky.

I believe they should let him get this back, but next time he does it he is all in, some people can't take a joke and rules are rules.

Verbal in turn IS binding...and that will be his punishment...I bet he doesn't say it again.

IF he had looked at his cards I can see it being binding. IF he didnt, then Id say let him have his bet back if he wants it back.

If the action was on him I don't know how this can be anything but binding....

What is the logic behind this?

If he'd been doing it all night, I'd compare it to playing Russian Roulette — he was bound to have to stand by his statement at some point. His chips go in the middle.

Its crazy that he wouldn't be allowed to pull that back in that context. Stupidity. But he should be given a warning.

In that situation, I'd go with whatever makes the table happy. That takes precedence over everything. If everyone is demanding that his verbal action be binding, then it's a bet. If they agree he's joking, then it was a joke.

Then he takes back the bet, and learns a valuable lesson I think.

If this happened then they should let him slide with a warning.

Re: guy accidentally goes all in for 250BB

I think a stern warning would be sufficient here.

He is in the small blind and making an action presumably out of turn that the table understands as a joke. But oops, there's a button straddle on so the action happens to be in turn. My guess is that more than just the small blind at the table did not immediately realize the statement was regarding an action made in turn.

Then somebody wakes up with KK+ (or maybe a little wider: JJ+) and wants the action to stand (roll eyes). Hopefully if said player got his wish he ended up getting cracked in an 80/20 or better.

First, at least one person felt it was not a joke, but the others insisted it was. So everyone did not agree.

In some regards, I can see looking for a conscience from the table but not in the application of rules.

I would warn the player and not force him to bet the $500 ONCE, but not because the table would be unhappy.

I had the seat 6 player reach over and take the card from in front of seat 7 accidentally. It happens, he just wasn't paying attention but it created a misdeal. I asked for the cards back and 3 players objected.

Should I have just killed seats 6 and 7 since the majority of the table wanted to play the hand?

Dealers either enforce the rules or call the floor to make the decisions, they don't decide to let the table vote on them.

Why is this a misdeal?
