Actually I'm not a fan of calling casinos to ask them about rules like this. Because I have been on the other side of those calls. I have things to do and explaining to you how to run your home game isn't one of them.

Now if you are actually calling to decide which room to play in ... well thats a different issue. But generally when i got these calls it was because of a dispute at a home game.

I don't like these calls. I have found that often these people are giving you part of a story to tell you "well that isn't what happened yesterday..." The most common occurrence of hearing that is from someone that doesn't understand the different between facing a bet and being at showdown (if any of those are reading, if you are facing a bet and throw your cards forward, it is dead; at showdown you can pick them up and turn them over (most of the time)).

Re: flipping up during hand

I find that a bit crazy that someone would actually call a casino about home game instruction. Thats apples and oranges to me.

the home games I go to get pretty outrageous with what we can do, pretty much anything flies its actually a lot of fun.

OK different situation now, what if im at showdown and its up to the other guy to call. the other guy says, "let me see a card and ill decide"....this is pretty much knowing it was c-beting/calling everystreet. heads up by the way am i then allowed to flip one up?

i was under the impression that there is some flexibility with some rules (but all players have to agree...which never happens)

That's substantially different because it's heads-up. There might be all kinds of house rules that would make this inadvisable (such as the ill-advised and recently rescinded Greektown instakilling of hands, RIP) but in general there's no reason to object.

Re: flipping up during hand

Yeah, I try to make these calls during off hours, and I keep them very brief and on point. Is practice for calling the floor to a table.

Besides, a call a couple of weeks ago resulted in a dual rate correcting his mistaken interpretation of a rule, so there's some overall benefit sometimes. With all due respect to psand and RR, I think we have somewhat different views in this category.

I don't understand the camera/security comparison.

Yeah, most home games are a horrorshow. But some of us take them very seriously. I ran mine like a casino and it was a blast. Three tables regularly.

At least twice I've been highly amused by this scenario. Players get into a minor controversy, floor gets called, makes a ruling, and several players ask "WTH are you smoking?" But the floor stands his ground. 10 minutes later he comes over and announces, "I just got off the phone with the the floor at Bellagio and he agreed with my decision."

So sometimes it's not a home game, sometimes it's a game at Sahara.

It's never a game at Sahara.
