I was at a local bar playing a rebuy tournament (1st often cashes 9x the buy in thanks to loads of horrible players). Two timid nitty older players limp and a super spewy kid raises to 800. I reraised with A-Q to 1800 to isolate. All three players called. Pot is at 6,000 with the blinds
FLOP 2-6-8 rainbow
After it goes check check check I decide to shove my remaining 6400 figuring the two nits will think I have a big pair and the kid will simply think he's beat. The nits fold and the kid tanks for like 2 minutes. He finally says "I call" and I automatically say "good call" and show my bluff.
Kid exclaims "I KNEW you were bluffing!!" with a big smile and flips up J-9s. No pair. No draw. No nothing. Turn and river are bricks and the table is silent as I more than double up off of one of the stupidest thing I've ever seen. It took everything in me not to laugh in that kid's face. I mean, he WAS technically right about me bluffing so kudos on that read, but Jack high? Really? GG buddy.
20-40 limit around the year 2000. At a table where young, super arrogant guy and old guy have played some hands against each other and there is some tension. (FTR, I was merely an observor) YG raises the button first in, and OG calls in the BB. Flop is 2s5s3x, betting is capped. Turn is 5x, betting is capped again. River is 3s. Capped. YG flips over 53 for a full house. OG starts to slide his cards towards the muck. YG says I want to see that hand. OG keeps sliding and doesn't want to show, but dealer says you have to show and picks up the cards. As4s. YG went wild and called the floor, of course, to no avail. Priceless.
8-16 LHE at the Venitian a couple of years ago. The UTG player mistakenly thinks it is a misdeal and shows his hand which is AA. The dealer informs him that it is not a misdeal and the player promtly raises. It is folded around to the button who anounces, "I have to play", and then calls. The big blind also calls. I forget how the betting went after that, but on the river the UTG player shows his AA again and drags the pot. The other hands were not shown. I don't think I've ever seen a dumber play before or since.
In my local card room playing 1-2 NL, I'm in the SB with 3-7o and I complete the limped pot. Flop comes 3-4-4. I lead 5 bucks, villain calls. Turn is a 4, I lead 8 bucks, again he calls. River is another 4. Making the board 3-4-4-4-4. I check as I have 7 high now, ans villain starts taking FOREVER counting out a bet. With the pot super small, I flip up my cards to show him and say "stop wasting our time" and smiling. He smiles back, flips over 6-6 and continues counting out a bet. He only thought I had a pair of 3's, once he puts in his bet, I snap shove, he snap calls and then it takes 10min to explain to him how he did not win the pot.
Stud game from back when people used to play stud:
I'm betting the whole way. I don't remember the exact cards, but I had kings showing so it was something like xxKK23x.
I bet the river. A lady sitting across from me calls. I flip up my cards to show my hand. The lady flips over hers and we see nothing. The dealer fans our her cards further to make sure we're not missing something since she called, and he finally says "lady, you can't even beat his kings that were showing!"
In 1/2, every now and then I see this: there's one or more person all-in, and two or more players who can still bet for a side pot. One person who's not all-in decides to bluff with complete air into a 0 or very small side pot.
Seeing as there has been controversy over this post, I thought I'd share a similar experience.
Back when I was just learning the game, I was playing a free NLHE at a local bar near Dallas when I made this play:
Someone was all in on the flop, and I bet the turn with ace high into a 0 side pot, and my opponent dejectedly folded her cards. I ended up chopping the main pot. The mucked hand would have also chopped the pot. She was very upset, and told me that my bet was extremely rude, and the whole table agreed with her.
They were ALL disgusted by my play, and the girl told me I had a bulls eye on my head. I was so put off that I ended up busting out of the tournament a few hands later, and they all celebrated when I left the table.
Live 1/2NL game with only 6 players. Hero is standard TAG and got caught running a 3 barrel against Villain (He is TAGfish at best and folds easily) who hero called him with mid pair on a A high board just a few hands prior (either I played bad or he was tired of being pushed around).
Pre:
Villain limps and Hero iso-raises with A9o on button. Villain flats.
Flop: 799 (with two diamonds)
Checks to Hero who cbets his likely best hand and Villain calls.
Turn: K (non-diamond)
Hero pots to get value from K, All pairs less 77 and flush draws. Villain tanks and calls.
River: 3 (non-diamond)
Villain pots the river. Hero thinks it through for a while and shoves. Villain left with $30 behind calls all in and tables Q8off.
Villain subsequently reasoned his Q high call buy saying he was pot committed by the river and that I could be bluffing....

In a similar vein, I once had a guy call my preflop all-in with 84o because "I knew you were bluffing." He was so happy he picked off my bluff that he forgot his own holdings. I guess some people get caught up in the moment and forget their hole cards.
Late 90's 20/40 stud at taj. I'm Headsup otr with jjjjxx no pair showing vs board of 5555. He put in 26 bets with his pants down. No idea what he was thinking. Worst play i ever seen.
Blinds 1/2, Its a Multiway pot, I limp for £2 with pocket 5's on the CO there is 6 people to the flop.
Flop is TT4dd, everyone checks
Turn is T everyone checks, so I make a PSB thinking I have the best hand which I do.
This real donk on the BTN calls me and says "I will keep you honest". This guy has zero clue (this was my first time playing with him but I got to know him through the years!) he is beyond bad and so annoying.
River is Jd so a flush is out, but who gives a *** about a flush when the boad reads
Tx-Td-4d-Tx-Jd
Anybody with half a brain cell knows a full ****** house beats a flush! In fact you should not be calling to try and catch a flush when the board shows 3 of a kind! If anything you are going to bluff me on the river when you call my turn bet. Its a ****** multiway pot, what? we all missed the flop and none of us has a pair! and it never beats a flush you ****** TARD!
okay, so I check and he bets the pot...
Of course I over think things, like he must know I have a full house and he cant be bluffing me because 6 people saw the flop and turn, unless he has A4 but why bet with A4 when only better calls...etc....etc..he looks confident and I never seen him bluff before....he tells me I have you!
so I fold.
He shows me Ad7d for a flush and tells me that he had the best hand!! If is A7dd is the best hand on that board then AKhigh is also the best hand because it beats only a bluff.
