Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
In 1/2, every now and then I see this: there's one or more person all-in, and two or more players who can still bet for a side pot. One person who's not all-in decides to bluff with complete air into a 0 or very small side pot.

This can actually be very profitable depending on the situation.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
There are very few situations in which it is +EV, and I'm not talking about those. I've seen it done in the most retarded of situations (postflop), with a big bet so the extra chance of winning the main pot (by catching what MIGHT be an out) definitely didn't make the bluff +EV.
I don't need to quit poker, thanks. I have my share of leaks, but not bluffing to win $0 isn't one of them. You might be the one who needs to quit if you don't see anything dumb about that play or if you think it's smart in lots of situations.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
2 hands from this week that I enjoyed...
1) Hero opens EP AJdd $300 deep. Gets to Villian in MP who shoves all-in around the same stack size $300.00. Hero folds obv, Villian shows AA....nh sir
-Why do these types even play poker? lol
2) Hero opens AQhh utg, BB calls. Flop 9-9-7hh. Villian checks, Hero cbets, villian calls. Turn 9. Villian checks, hero checks. River 9. Villian checks, hero overbets the pot (I bet something like 2x pot, and Villian calls with 77....lol nh.
-He obviously didn't understand the rules, but even so it cracks me up that he still called such a huge bet to chop at best.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
I once moved all in for $2000.00 on the river into a $0.00 side pot with 32o on a board of 99TJ4, 3 hearts. The other player folded QQ face up and I split the main pot with the all-in player who also held 32o.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
Drunk guy checked the nut flush on the river Saturday night in a $20-40 LHE game at Commerce.
Then he slow rolled after I showed the 10 for the flush.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
In my local card room playing 1-2 NL, I'm in the SB with 3-7o and I complete the limped pot. Flop comes 3-4-4. I lead 5 bucks, villain calls. Turn is a 4, I lead 8 bucks, again he calls. River is another 4. Making the board 3-4-4-4-4. I check as I have 7 high now, ans villain starts taking FOREVER counting out a bet. With the pot super small, I flip up my cards to show him and say "stop wasting our time" and smiling. He smiles back, flips over 6-6 and continues counting out a bet. He only thought I had a pair of 3's, once he puts in his bet, I snap shove, he snap calls and then it takes 10min to explain to him how he did not win the pot.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
i witnessed a hand that involved a random lady and a dealer at this specific room. after both hands were face up on the table, and against my strong verbal insistence, they still ended up pushing the pot the wrong direction (to the random lady) who held the losing hand.
it was plo and the board was:
A88-9-8
the dealer/player held AKJ7
and the random lady held A965
the dealer / player and the actual dealer in the box both argued against me and they pushed the pot to the lady. "show me a better 5 card hand than 888AK!!" i said. they couldn't do it, but they still gave her the pot. amazing.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
I love this stuff.
Besides myself playing drunk, here is one from a few years ago that has always been on of my favorite Poker moments...
Live Game Detroit Greektown TxHE $1/$2 NL
I am sitting in the Big Blind having a good night so far. I have about $350 in front of me. I look at my cards to see 6/7. Guy in middle position makes it $12 and gets 3 callers. I figure: Pot Odds! I call.
Flop comes 3/4/5 rainbow. I check. Original better tosses out $15 and gets one caller. I call too. Turn is a 2. There is one card of each suit. Original better tosses in $25. The guy who had called earlier says: "Well, I can guess who has an Ace!!!" and mucks. I hate when people talk about a hand in progress, but this may help me. I tank for a moment, but don't over do it, and call. The river is an Ace. Loud mouth guy says: "Oh, man, I could have had a chop!!!" I hesitate for a moment and toss out $25 as if I am making the guy pay to see a chop...
...this is where it gets stupid...
...guy hesitates for a couple of seconds and says: "I can play that game too... I'm all in."
He has over $200 left in front of him.
I call and show the nuts and he shows A/J. He went all in to play the board!!!
His reaction wasn't too bad. He stared at the cards for a bit. Asked how much I had. The dealer told him I had him covered. He asked again how much I had. The dealer told him I had him covered. He asked a third time how much I had and I said: "Over $300" and he shipped the sherbert to Herbert.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
River, I had 5 high in a 4 way pot (4 on board, so I am nearly playing the board).
3 people checked out without a bet and I pulled down the pot.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
10-20 limit game Modesto California 1991ish
A severly drunk Manteca Paul flops a small spade flush with 9 players seeing the flop (capped before the flop)..Crazy action on the next two betting rounds..5 dollar chips in the pot cover the table from end to end..Still 6 people in to see the river..Paul yells out "no ****ing spade!!"..Dealer turns over a spade and MP throws his two cards against the nearest wall..They slide down to the floor and a railbird notices that he made a straight flush..Dead hand of course.
We all were just busting over that one.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
15/30 at the Oaks Club. I have Ah4h on a board of KhQh9d 5s 3h. (don't remember all the action, but I know that I bet/3bet the multiway flop and check/called the turn). I bet/3bet/5bet/7bet/9bet/11bet/13bet/15bet the river against an angry asian woman who is instantly reraising every time I jack it up. Eventually she is all in, and triumphantly tables JhTh for "straight and flush". She was extremely confused when she was told that you have to have 5 cards of the same suit in a row for a straight flush.
Not sure if this is dumb or brilliant, but here's another (I think from a 20/40 game). Villain raises with 87o and I call in the BB with 33. Flop is QQ4 with a flush draw. I c/r and villain calls. Turn is a Q and I check and villain checks. River is a Q. I bet, villain calls with 8-high and his hand is good.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
A few months ago, villain at a new casino here in London.
1/2 game in London. I'm in MP with rubbish.
Couple of limpers, I fold, couple more folds, button makes it £16, BB completes, other limpers all call so it's four people to the flop.
Flop (£65): A A 4
Check, check, check, check.
Turn: (£65): A
Check, check, check, check.
River: (£65): J
Check, check, check, check.
First to act looks disgusted, turns over J4o and says, "Damn, I should have bet my boat".
Next two guys muck as the Button flips over his cards - ATo for QUAD ACES.
That's right. The BB called a raise with J4o, then checked two streets with a full house, while the button checked one street with trip Aces and two streets with quads, before proceeding to slow-roll.
