Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
We've all done dumb things at the table. We've all seen others do dumb things too but that's not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about the most idiotic, boneheaded, moronic decisions possible. As in you-really-should-stop-playing-poker stupid and you're not even drunk.
I'll start. Playing at the Hard Rock Tampa in a $180 buy in tourney. Villain has about 6k left and sees a multiway flop out of the small blind. Flop is all spades, 10 high. Villain donks 1000 and the action behind him is shove, shove and shove. He tanks, calls and shows A-10 no spade. Of course he's drawing dead to runner runner boat vs two flushes and busts.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
Well, hell, I don't know if this thread is going to go anywhere, but I'll tell a recent story anyway.
I was playing 1-2 in Baton Rouge. Big Blind covers the table, somehow. He seems a little goofy. EP has a little over $200 in front, opens for 20(!) and gets one MP call. BB checks his hand and makes it 80.
EP goes in the tank. Seems genuinely unsure of what to do, when the BB says, "I just want the money in the middle" and shows the table his aces. Obviously, a very quick fold-fold and we're on to the next hand.
EP says quietly, "I had AK, I was gonna shove".
Games are good in the South, btw.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
I'm playing 2/5 at Borgata. I'm small blind with 9-9. There's 6 limpers and I know if I raise at least 4 are calling so I just limp.
Flop comes 9-9-7 (WOW!)
I check, a guy in mid position bets $30, I'm the only caller.
Turn 7
I check and villain bets $100 and I call
river x
I bet $50 and villain shoves for his last $80.
I am positive he has 7-7 and we've hit the bad beat. I was wrong.
He turns over A-7 and says "I didn't think you had a 9."
Really? What did you think I kept calling you with?

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
Playing $1/$2 at nearby casino, and recently won a decent pot when I turned the nut flush. I'm in the 10-seat, and the 7-seat across from me opens for $10. I call with position holding AhQc, the blinds call, and the four of us take a flop of Ac9c4c. The blinds check, and the preflop raiser bets $20. I call, the blinds fold, and he asks "Flush draw again?" I shrug my shoulders in response. The turn is the Kc, and he gets this dejected look on his face. As he announces "I check," he TURNS HIS POCKET 9s FACE UP! I turn to the dealer as if to say "What gives?" and the dealer simply says "Action's on you." The player has about $200 behind, and I have him covered, so I move all in, pause briefly, and say "I'll show you either way." He briefly tanks, and calls. River bricks, he quickly grabs his coat and exits.

I wanted to add another... I saw a guy with polio and two canes toss a chip rack at the dealer after being felted twice in about 5 minutes/... the dealer ducked and the rack flew across the room and hit a player in the back of the head.
that was awesome!

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
Playing an deep underground $2-$5 game and got the table to agree to play the seven deuce game for $10 per player. Later in the night UTG (who has a penchant for shipping preflop to protect) opens to $25, 3 callers and BTN (quite the nice guy, but quite the donk) squeezes to $200, blinds fold and UTG ships for a huge overbet of somewhere in the neighborhood of $2800. BTN SNAPS! I mean, Phil Hellmuth: "CALL!!!" type of snap. In this particular room they require players to roll their cards in all-in situations. UTG had an expected KK (don't want to give 'em a shot at the ace! lolz) and BTN rolled over....27o. The man snapped called a 6x pot preflop all-in with seven high. Seven. High. He really wanted that $70.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
2 hands come to mind. First was in my first tournament in Vegas. I was chip leader with 11 people left and 9 people cashed. UTG is short stacked and goes all in. Folds to the button who goes all in for just a little more. These two were the smallest 2 stacks left. I am in the BB and have QQ......and fold. Both flipped over A 2 and A 9 and I would have knocked them both out. One of them ended up winning tournament and my friend bubbled the tournament.
2nd was early in another $50 buyin Vegas tournament. Within the first hour of a tournament and everyone has decent stacks there is a raise and a reraise allin both healthy stacks. Guy looks at his hand and acts like he has a tough decision and ends up calling. He then turns over K 5 of hearts and of course triples up.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
I got checkraised all three streets with AK on an AAK board at an underground NL game. Not one person in the room didn't know what I had.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
I saw a guy call and fold directly into the muck at the same time because he thought he was beat and was making a crying call. The worst thing was after he folded the other guy showed a busted flush draw like 5 high. He was so steamed and embarrassed he racked up and left.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
The dumbest thing I ever see is someone who thinks he's too smart for the game, and has absolutely no ability to understand the way someone else might think differently about it.
I see this every day.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
One of the dumbest things I see all the time is people criticizing the new players or bad players and I can tell on their face they came to have fun and are leaving because they are being berated publicly.

Re: Dumbest plays you've ever seen live
That is a side effect of thinking you are too smart for the game. I agree, it's ridiculously stupid.
