This is always fun.

Heads up on the river.

Player A bets, player B folds, player C (without cards) puts out calling chips.

I quickly scoop up those chips like I'm gonna add them to the pot.

Player C either freaks and starts screaming or sits there in stunned silence.

I return his chips and the table gets a good laugh.

I've got 98s in the BB. A few limps, she raises, her first pre-flop raise of the evening. A million people call.

Flop comes 865r. We all check, she bets, most of us call. Welcome to low limit!

Turn is a 7, making 8657 no flush possible. We all check, and surprisingly, the boyfriend bets into her. She's stunned. She's looking at the board, and it's becoming clear that her big pair isn't worth a crap any more, and she's unsure what to do.

"This is what I've been trying to tell you," he says arrogantly, patronizingly. "This is the Power Of The Bet. See how it changes everything? See how by betting, I put YOU to the tough decision?" He's practically strutting sitting down, no mean feat.

She folds. I just call, vainly hoping some idiot behind might come along with us, but that doesn't happen. Two of us see the river, a T, so now it's 8657T.

Knowing he's aggro (and not knowing if he might have J9), I check. He confidently bets.

I call, and say, "Chop it up," and turn up my hand.

He's stunned. The smile falls right off his face. "You have the nine???", he blurts, as he mucks. "How could you not BET that???"

"That's the Power Of The Call," I told him. Everyone laughed.
Love it!

Although, your play was, um, sub-optimal.

Sure it is. You're presuming I have a bankroll > one buy-in.

And most baffling of all: I understand that if you fumble and the ball goes out of bounds, you retain possession...unless the ball travels over the goal line and goes out of the end zone, that's a turnover??? WHY???? WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY????? I never understood this.
I'll give it a shot!

a 4 route is an up-and-in. A 9 is a fly. The route tree is actually sorta straightforward once you understand that the evens go to the middle of the field and the odds towards the sideline.

I had to look up 3-technique tackle, but I would have known B gap tackle.

The tampa 2 is a simple 4-3 defense where the MLB drops back to cover the middle of the field. The 4-6 I also had to look up - it's another 4-3 defense where 8 play in the box with lockdown corners.

AN illegal formation is one without 7 men on the LOS, with the two outside guys being eligible.

the fumble rule drives me crazy too. If you fumble it OOB at the half yard line, it's your ball in scoring territory. but if it goes out 2 feet farther it goes to the other team? nonsense - they should treat it just like a defensive PI in the end zone (which also can't be placed at the spot of the foul) and give it to you on the 1 yard line.

That would get under my skin quick.
I can almost envision him tilting down some reading glasses as he says it.

This is insane. I deal in a small cardroom. 3 tables, only one of which is usually running. in the last three days we have dealt 3 royals, two straight flushes, and two quads. By my guestimations we have probably only dealt around 1500-2000 hands in that time. The odds of this have to be insane.

That is insane... but I can almost guarantee that there is some cardroom, somewhere, where something insane is happening at this vary moment. It just happened to be at your room the last few days.

Once I dealt a woman a Royal Flush, and the losing end of a small BBJ (AAAQQ beat) in the span of about 5 minutes. That's some crazy **** right there.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

Once saw a guy make quad Aces TWICE, AND a Royal, in 45 minutes. The Royal spiked the K on the river to beat a guy who had 98s on a TJQs flop. No BBJ, since neither player ended up using both hole cards.

It was his first time playing poker in a casino. He was broke an hour later.

The other night I decided to play only Group 1 and 2 hands (AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AKs; TT, AQs, AJs, AKo, iirc; I played AQo as well). I got 14 of 'em in the first hour!

You must have looked like a maniac, raising every other hand.

Well yeah, anybody could look them up, it only makes my point for me! You've been watching football your whole life, and didn't know the definition of these common terms. And since you knew the routes and the illegal formation, that puts you as one of the smartest kids in the class! Imagine how dumb the other guys sound!

My 13-year-old daughter posted on her FB today, "What's the big deal with football? Why is everyone so obsessed with it? It's too confusing, too many numbers and stuff. How is anyone supposed to understand it?"

I posted back, "Don't worry, sweetie. Some day, you'll meet a boy who will explain it all to you patronizingly. This is how you will know he loves you. And if you resist the urge to tell him to stop, and you pretend to listen, this how he will know you love him."

So amazing.

I'm never going to forgive myself for passing up the chance to ask her to watch her language.
If I have a good enough rapport with the table (which I almost always do if I've been in a game for any more than two downs) and I'm not playing at the MGM in Vegas (only room I've ever been asked to leave, all because I said "crap" while telling a story to my tablemates), I rarely miss the opportunity to say, "Sir/Ma'am, would you PLEASE watch your ****in' language?" Just one of those super-lame, super-obvious jokes that never fails to get good laughs among good people.

You have a valid point here. I guess the best way to explain it would be with the same answer I give to dice players when they ask why they have to throw the dice to the opposite side of the table... "That's just the way it is."
