I'm just gonna brag that mine took less than an hour.

A small part of the reason we are perpetually short staffed is that it takes forever and a day.

California. I was told it averages 2-3 weeks, so not too bad. Most of the jobs I've had required background checks so I'm used to this process.

When I first applied we had to provide in triplicate all banking records for 10 years, complete work history and living address for the same time period, get fingerprinted, complete criminal background and credit checks (forgot about that speeding ticket 25 years ago? That's going to delay things..), fill out a roughly 20 page form (supplementary documentation required for some questions) plus a character interview by a retired cop. Only took about a week to process though.

Now it's about a 3 page form, fingerprints & 'interview' (if there's nothing out of the ordinary they just bid you adieu). For renewals just sign a form saying nothing has changed or fill out what has changed and HR takes care of it, including the cost. Drive (100+ miles) for a new photo every 4y. Company pays mileage.

You had to know a retired cop to get a job?

I think the application was only 10 pages and I had my interview and fingerprinting on Friday. I only needed a 5 year employment and address history. Unfortunately, I lost my wallet right before I got the job offer so I'll spend tomorrow at the DMV getting a new license.

I'm dealing a cash game. The final table of a bigger-than-usual tourney is going on behind me, a few tables away. I hear an agitated voice pleading, "All right...come on...one time!....THERE IT IS!"

One second later, a much louder gasp/howl from the crowd watching that game, indicating a slim draw just flipped the script.

"There it WAS!", I cried. Got a few chuckles.

Mine too. There are a lot of frustrating things about working in LA but licensing doesn't seem to be one of them.

Question: Does management have some sort of predictive model on day of the week, month of the year, and promos going on how many tables they expect? Or are they only feel players in terms of staffing.

Hey peeps got a quick question about Bravo and adding games. We have added a couple games in our room (pineapple & big o) but for some reason we have been unable to add it to Bravo and have it show up properly on the app. Both games show up as 0-0 Holdem anybody, know how to fix it?

Thanks for the heads up. I got it done and only took 2 1/2 hours! Everything is now done on my end and my references were all called today. Now I wait.

Sounds like my first marriage. Licence application took 15 minutes, used a golf pencil from a basket in the lobby of the clerk's office.

All of the people conducting the interviews at the gaming office 'just happen' to be retired cops... from the police department that shares the building with the licensing agency.

We've got an older player who LOVES folding then enthusiastically announcing all in when there are multiple players still in the hand. Other players keep telling him stories of other rooms that have forced someone to put all their chips in with no cards in that spot, I've tried to explain why it's a problem, but he won't let it go. He just keeps repeating that he has no cards how can it have any effect?

Eventually someone is going to act based on the joke and I'm afraid I'll be the dealer or floor who has to deal with the aftermath.

Start giving him a penalty now so that doesn’t happen. He’s been asked to stop, told why it’s not acceptable, now put the hammer down on him.

I don't understand how this can't be stopped by the floor. Does the floor not understand why it's a problem? Do you have poor lines of communication between dealers and floors in your room?

Because floors don't want to do anything, until they HAVE to.

Those fantasy baseball websites aren't going to read themselves!

Or maybe the problem is that Everytime a floorperson tries to correct a problem the player goescrying to the manager and the floor gets undercut because the manager is deathly in fear of losing a player ....

I don't know his room. But I have certainly seen rooms where this was the way things operated.

It's a new room with 1 real floor per shift and a rotating army of inexperienced dual rates. He's only done it twice while I was at the table. First I tried explaining calmly and joking around with him, yesterday I tried scolding but he keeps arguing and playing up his language barrier.

I haven't escalated because I know nothing is going to happen unless it has an effect on the action. I guess I need to get that moving now.

If I were another player in his game, I would be thrilled to see his money go into the pot while he had no cards.

I push into yet another nightly tournament. Second level, blinds 50-100.

First hand, all nine players limp in, option checks (??!?).

"Ooooh," I said, "this must be the bounty tournament!"

NARRATOR VOICE: It was.

***

YTF: (pulls in preflop bets) Six players.

MUSIC SYSTEM: "This here's the story 'bout Billy Jooooooe, and Bobbi Sue--"

YTF: (rapidly pats table four times, spreads flop)

I had a guy flop a Royal last night. Everyone started telling their own straight-flush stories, but the first one was my fav:

PLAYER: Wow...I haven't had a Royal in a long time.

YTF: You're SUPPOSED to go a long time between Royals!
