It's a gaming employee thread, I don't see why not!

Not my story, but I found this on a dealer forum and thought it was pretty funny -

Quote:
I'm on a BJ game next to a Super Fun 21 table. My table is full of Asians jabbering a mile a minute in their native tongue. When I turn over a soft 17 and start paying and taking, a couple of them look confused and in the midst of all these Chinese words I hear "soft seventeen", so I pause and explain that on Super Fun we hit soft seventeen but stay on all other BJ games. One girls eyes get wide and she asks incredulously "You speak Chinese??!! I just winked at her and kept dealing. Never saw a table get so quiet so quickly.

small buffet style, with a food employee present who can grill you up a hamburger, hot dog, or ham sandwich if you want one. Cost is 5 bucks a week taken right out of your paycheck. Not a bad deal at all. The food quality ranges from blech to decent, with most offerings in the mediocre category.

Last casino I worked at was a la carte off a menu. Food quality was better since everything was made to order, but it was way more expensive, and it took ****ing forever to get your food, even for the simplest things. Order your food right when you get on break. Sit around 20 minutes. Now you have like 4 minutes to scarf and get back on the floor.

First casino I worked at was buffet style, two bucks a trip, and the food was absolutely horrible.

If you ever got calls from the poker room, was your immediate thought, "jesus christ, stop wasting my time with piddly crap"?

Because that's why I imagine surveillance thinks when they get a call from the poker room.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

How many of you guys answer the phone in a poker room? If you run tournaments, the calls and questions are endless. Some are legit, but some are, well....

What tourneys are you running?
What's the buy in?
What's the juice?
How many chips do you get?
How long are the blind levels?
What's the prize pool? (as if you can possibly know before you know how many players there are)
How long does the tourney last?
What time does your noon tourney start? (seriously, we get this question)
What's the buy in for the $105 tourney at noon? (again, seriously...)
How many players will there be?
You can't buy in over the phone? Can you reserve a seat for me then?
What if you have to leave before the tourney ends?
What colors are your chips? (ok, I made that up )

One day I'm going to pretend to be like the "movie phone" guy on Seinfeld.

"Why don't you just tell me how much you would like to be in the prize pool...."

By the way Quadstriker, has your avatar always been animated or am I just that unobservant? Thought I was having a flashback before I realized it was actually moving.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

Was dealing 3/6 tonight and this woman who is always in with her boyfriend was playing on table 1. She is terrible and I think her and her boyfriend have never cashed out.

We are heads up on the river with 4 diamonds and the board is paired. She leans over to the young kid next to her and starts to whisper in his ear. I tell her ma'am while you have live cards we can't be telling secrets. She sighs and calls 6 bucks.

She says I wanted to ask him if a straight beat a flush and rolls over a straight. The guy who bet rolls a boat and scoops the pot.

She sighs again and says I need a chip runner. I can't believe they are there like every other day.

We have one "featured" item per day (meatball sandwich, roast beef, etc), and it's $3. Along with that they have cold sandwiches and wraps (also $3). No drink either... those are in a machine, and $1. Needless to say I pack my own sodas. Remember this is a former slots-only casino so they are working on getting us a better set up (hopefully).

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

Our food is cheap but we get what we pay for. Once and a while when they close the buffet on the floor we do get a few decent things but that is only if you are extremely lucky. $1.59 is all our buffet costs but I call it the day old buffet, because everything on it looks like it is at least a day old.

On a side note the way they breathe life back into the food we have to eat, one they will just sprinkle cheese on it. That lasagna looks a little old, np just sprinkle cheese on it and nobody will notice! The second way they refresh our old food is I have seen them dump milk into the dry old mac and cheese and then sprinkle some cheese on it! Brand new!

We do get all the drinks we want for free outta the pop/coffee/juice machines.

If it is at all humanly possible to avoid answering the phone, I avoid answering the phone. And you're right. 20 questions with the tournament low rent players is the worst.

Regarding food, I can't imagine having to pay to get a drink. Now THAT'S sticking it to your staff.

Yesterday the floor said over the microphone, "Dealers, who wants an EO?"

I almost dislocated my arm.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread

Wow after reading this I guess we have it kind of good here for meals

We have a buffet and a grill cook. its completely free including drinks and you can use it as many times as you want. Some people abuse it and eat breakfast lunch and dinner every single day (even days off i've seen) but most people don't

the foods not that great and all tastes the same after a while to me, but it is free so whatever.

They do also use whatevers left over from the buffet so friday nights theres a ton of crab legs saturdays theres prime rib that a dude cuts for you like a regular buffet, etc.

As far as EOs, we used to be able to just walk in "sign and go" whenever you wanted to leave-basically didnt even have to work at al if you didnt want to . Now we've been so busy even after hiring 100 dealers nobody really gets to go home anymore. even with over 100 tables open were still short

That's just sad.

I guess it says something for the food quality though!

Yeah back in the days (we don't do this anymore) we would chase down old ladies that drop $5.00 vouchers.

We would also be pissed every night there was a cash variance from the cage for $10 bucks
