Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread
Question for the dealers:
Tonight I was playing 4-8 and one of the players was splashing the pot over and over, and the dealer told him to stop. Player got pissed off and after several snide comments finally shut up.
At she was getting pushed, the player says something to the effect of "you are lucky to be getting tipped here, if you weren't here you would giving hand jobs" in a racist way. I suspect both dealers heard but didn't say anything.
I was torn between calling the floor, to try to get the guy tossed, and letting it go. I wasn't sure if they would want me calling the floor since they ignored it themselves. I am also not much for drama and don't really want this guy hating me in my regular room when frankly it had nothing to do with me.
What do i do here?

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread
I doubt the dealers heard that because if they had you can bet they would have probally called the floor I know I would have. Also a reason to not splash the pot is because in say a 4/8 limit game if you splash and all I see is 6 of your 8 dollar bet you would be required to toss in another 2 bucks to complete the call. It is just a bad idea to splash.
I have been known, more than once, to make people put more money in the pot because I could not tell the exact amount they had put in.
Usually only takes one time of having to make someone put in more money to complete a call they might have already completed to fix the problem though.

I'll just pass on the story as told to me...
The phone rings in the poker room and it's the surveillance supervisor calling to report a problem. "The dealer on table 3 is not dropping the rake--we recommend you take disciplinary action." "Ahem... table 3 is a TOURNAMENT TABLE!"
Surveillance catching the dealer screwing up the rake is pretty common in Vegas, at least in some rooms. I've heard a couple tales of dealers getting dinged because surveillance found they were under-raking somewhat regularly.
It will be news when surveillance calls down to the poker room to report the dealer screwed up the side pot calculation and player 3 is owed $30 by player 2.

What this dealer would do is color up the jackpot drop and rake and leave it all next to the rake drop, then when the hand was over if she received a tip, she would drop the rake as normal, and then she would take the tip and the 2 dollar JP drop chip and drop them in her box. I never saw her do this, the morning regs she dealt to have one foot in the grave, and I guess she never did this while the floor was looking. It was surveillance that actually caught her. That's right, surveillance actually caught something going on in a poker game without being prompted and action was taken. Has that ever happened in another cardroom ever?
I usually started 4 or 5 hours after this girl, and before we found out she was a thief I would make comments to her like "wow, had a good morning huh?" and you know what she would say? "Yeah, I just got lucky." Lucky my ass.
I remember covering for her shift once because I thought, "Man, she always does really well in the mornings!" Somehow I didn't exactly have her success. Now I know why.
The day she was caught it was early in the morning, and by a twist of fate she was the only dealer on duty dealing to the only game going. A flurry of gaming officials and security came in and said to the floor "We need her off that game, NOW." They had to pull the lid and lock it up (This casino did not allow floormen to deal in a pinch.)
I will never understand thieves.

I would not bet on it being surveillance that caught this woman. In rooms where tokes are taxed the management sees the amount and can tell if someone is stealing. Then it is just a matter of catching them.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread
If a dealer gets is caught stealing over here, which is extremely rare, they're on the front page of the paper the next day with a black bag over their head. Then they go to jail. It's a nice deterrent.

You don't count the pot to figure it out?

A gaming official I am friends with told me that they were checking something else on the game and saw the dealer stealing. Whether that's the truth or not I can't say.

Not always practical.
I can see the floor making such a ruling "No dealer, do not take the time to count down that pot over 100 dollars. You there, DB player, place enough chips in front of you to complete the call or fold your hand."
Dealer doing it on his own is odd though imo.

Love this thread, love these kinds of stories. I'm not a casino employee, nor do I play one on TV, but I enjoy my rare visits to LV and the Bike here in LA.
Thanks a lot for these stories!

Maybe you should read the reason for your warning or infraction if you get another one. I don't want to derail this thread with a discussion about warnings; I'd suggest you take that up with the mod who gave it to you, although I think that would be a waste of time in this case since it was pretty clear-cut, and not at all for the reasons you have stated. I just wanted to clear that up so other posters wouldn't fear they'd get warnings or infractions just for telling stories.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread
Not a dealer but i read this on dicedealer, supposed to be downtown LV craps from the 70's
"A player bets $2.25 outside and the agitated dealer says: "For six hours already! ........Here, you want $2.25 outside? Go get it! (as he throws the chips outside on Fremont street!)"
LOL

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread
Wild games tonight.
I'm working overtime and push into a 4/8 with a full kill. A guy says he's going to play and raise blind AND he's going to win 5 in a row doing it and then go home. He raised every bet. He reraised every raise. Bet out every street if no bet yet.
He won 4 in a row. Blind. HUUUUUUUUGE pots. He got outkicked on the 5th hand by one pip.
And the happy ending, he toked good.
Isn't it funny how things like new chips or new table layouts put you in a better mood at work? We've been getting layouts replaced on all the tables the past week. Nice and new.

Re: The Breakroom: low-content gaming employee chatter thread
I just got told a funny story tonight about one of our dealers who doesnt work here anymore.
He was middle aged and liked to dabble in illicit substances. One night while he was dealing blackjack he is showing a 10 rolls another 10 and proceeds to hit it twice drawing 2 face cards.
His players are shocked that he just hit a 20 twice to get a total of 40.... then looks at them and say what... I broke.... and pays them.
The eye in the sky called down and was like WTF they pulled him off the game and sent him home. He didnt work there long after that.

Yeah it's always amazing to me the amount of people that get fired for not passing random drug tests. Like you didn't know you couldn't do drugs when you started here you ****ing idiot? I have no sympathy for the druggies.
