BBJ not denied at Casino del Sol, Tucson
I'm sure most of you have heard of or even involved in BBJ being denied because perhaps someone talked about BBJ during the hand, or someone exposed their hands prior to showdown. Now I have a story that goes the other way. Bonus funny story at the end.
Saturday night at Casino del Sol, 4/8 mixed (OE) game. Omaha round. Criteria is quads beat, and if quad is involved, it has to be pocket pair from the hand.
On the river the board reads Q32-Q-3. Player A bets, player B raises.
Player C (a long time player who should probably know better) now lifted her cards up rather high, started complaining about how she missed her big draw (she did flopped nut flush draw, nut low draw and a wheel wrap draw, in all fairness), and after going on and on for about 45 seconds, she tossed her cards in front of her faced up!
Player D quickly mucked behind, A reraised and B capped it!
A quickly tabled quad treys and B excitedly tabled quad queens!
Thumbs up to Casino del Sol, even after reviewing the tape, still awarded the BBJ (~15k total)! From I heard, they ruled that the exposed hand wasn't part of the BBJ hands, so they let it slide.
Bonus story: The table was about to convert into a 1/3 PLO8 game, they yelled for me to come join the game, and so I racked up at the other table and walked over, without missing a beat. When I walked over, they were playing one last hand before changing the game, the dealer burned and turned the river for the board of Q32-Q-3...

Don't know what usually happens, but seems like it would be ridiculous if they did deny this one.

All of the Omaha-spreading casinos here do a BBJ. Quads beat, or Quad-5's beat, or Quad-8's beat... ...whatever CAZ has their Omaha minimum set at.
Interesting that Del Sol has a pocket pair requirement in Omaha, in that it eliminates boards like KKK99 from the mix. The usual "both cards must play" are already a rule of Omaha
Casinos want to talk tough, but 99% of the time, the jackpot gets paid...

Most of the talk about "that will kill the jackpot" is by employees trying to make players comply. Example: someone grumbles about unracking their chips to play, someone says "rack on the table kills the jackpot" the chips are quickly unracked. Where the jackpot will get killed is if someone has a draw at it and shows their hand to keep the made half from betting.

Quad 2s seems like a really low qualifier, even with the PP stipulation. Tunica had quad Js.

Yes! i knew it. It makes no sense that two consecutive hands out of a rack would kill a BBJ, but one hand per the rule is just fine. I will, however, put this in my bucket of "old wives' tales too insignificant to dispute."

Well a rack on the can kill a jackpot; if a card was lost under it and only 51 cards were in play.

IDK who so many people assume the cardroom is looking for any excuse to kill a jackpot.

Re: BBJ not denied at Casino del Sol, Tucson
had a similar experience, but different, to OP in Wendover in 2005.
hand is heads up on river: bet, raise, all-in, call.
board is ATxxT
all-in bettor says "aces full", caller rolls quad Ts.
aces full gets sad/bummed look an face, flashes aces to table and mucks.
as he starts to muck, i'm leaning forward out of my seat, like a slow-motion movie scene: "nnnnoooooooooo!!"
dealer blocks guys cards from getting mixed in with muck and tables them.
calls floor over for jackpot.
floor says "ok, i'll go to eye in sky to verify, etc"
we're pretty certain this is going to be invalidated; guy didn't table hand, dealer intervened, etc.
but about an hour later, they came over with the money.

Well, in my experience a lot of it has to do with jackpot TALK, and talk about people's hands, and in those situations employees are quite right to try and stop it.
Because what happens is that the 99 percent of the time it's not a jackpot, that sort of egotistical talk about people's hands in violation of the rules by people looking for a table share is very bad for the game.

Big jackpot numbers bring in business. All else equal, it would be in the room's interest to let the pot built as big as possible. All else is never equal, and it's a foolish room that would piss off customers just to build that number -- but perhaps not all managers see it that way.
