Grunch -- outrageous ruling and you suffered an injustice. You could have prevented the injustice. When you have the best hand there's absolutely no reason you should be doing anything with your cards but securing them, face up on the table, until you receive the pot. Only then do you release them so the next hand can begin. Holding onto your cards is your assurance that the floor will address your concern before the next hand.
So, expensive, injust lesson, but lesson nonetheless. I'd still alert the room supervisor in hopes they address this but not expect any remedy at this point.

Yeah, i'm never sure how to handle that. Usually by the time it becomes an issue all other hands are dead and it's obvious i won the pot so i can be pretty much assured they won't screw me out of it in front of witnesses, but i never feel too sure. Usually they just want to move the hand for the cameras or make room to push the chips, so i try to be accommodating while still hanging onto my cards. I'm pretty sure if i called the floor for this everyone in the cardroom and 2/3 of 2+2 would tell me i need to lighten up.
