Agree with Rapini re: the reading of someone's hand...to a point. Although, I tend not to get involved with that and particularly when someone turns up a very weak hand or a bluff. It sounds like you're just trying your best to screw the bettor, and besides, imo, that's the job of the dealer to call out the hands. It becomes my obligation when the dealer fails to read it, or fails to read it correctly(and I'd only ever go as far to say "Eight high" and nothing more), but until then? I think it's up to his opponent to read the hand for himself, just like I feel that it's up to you to the read my hand/the board. Part of poker.

So I go and play a tournament in a room I've only been in once or twice over the weekend. Playing a weekly tournament. Before we start, the floor makes a speech going over rules, and spends a decent chunk of it saying something to the extent of: "Don't turn your cards over until the dealer says, no matter what. If the dealer hasn't said turn your cards over, we may kill your hand and take your first born child".

Half an hour in, we get to a hand where a guy shoves on the river, gal hmms and haws, finally just turns her cards up and throws them a few inches in front of her (towards the board/muck).

Of course, dead silence follows for a few seconds, before the dealer just scoops up her hand and pushes the pot. Someone says "was that a fold?", dealer says "I think so", gal says "Of course it was!!!", and we move on. After the deal starts for the next hand, guy beside me asks the dealer to clarify what happened, since he figured it was a premature exposure of her hand. Alas, he didn't know she was a regular, and he promptly got informed "Oh, she wouldn't do that" by 3 or 4 other people at the table.

The joys of small casinos.
