A new one: Massive visor/mask
Saw a dude last night wearing one of the dumbest things I've ever seen at a poker table: A giant visor with hinges on it, so that you could swing it down and cover your face like a welding mask. Which, of course, he did on occasion. Like this.
And he was playing the cheapest game in the place (1-2 LHE), with a big pile of fiddy cent chips in front of him like he was master of the universe or something...
Really wish I'd gotten a photo to preserve the stupidity of it.

I wasn't at that table. I play 6-12. You couldn't pay me to play 1-2 LHE.

getting staked for liveplay...
Hey, This will be a bit more complicated...
I decided to quit uni 2 weeks ago because i can't stand the situation anymore (im german, studying there aswell... ive been abroad for half a year and this really changed me... im just not happy with my life anymore here in germany...) and want to go abroad for some time (maybe 2 years or sth?)
When i was in australia from Oktober'11 to April'12 i played some livepoker in a tiny tiny tiny casino (2 pokertables, every evening the same old guys busting their pension... total playerpool maybe like 25 guys and ~4 "regs" (incl. me... plus im clearly the best of the regs)... The only game running is a $1/$2.50 game and i played for a total of ~100hrs there winning ~3900$, meaning $39/hr. I get that this is ridic high for a 1/2 game, but the game was beyond soft and i wasnt running SUPER hot as i had really tough beats aswell, assuming 35h/hr i got a sample of 3.5k hands, which is not in any way significant, i know, but even in these 3.5k hands i lost numerous 90/10 situations etc so i couldnt have been running extremely hot...
So here's the main thing now... I quit uni and my plan was to work for a few months here in germany (just some ****ty wtf job to earn some money) and when i have enough money to be able to live for a few months in another country simply go there and live (kind of like work-and-travel as i did in australia). But i talked to my ex-boss where ive been working in australia and they are really nice people who care a lot about me and he now came to the idea that he could stake me for live poker. He doenst have a ***** clue about poker, thats the main "problem". He's a smart guy though, and he realizes that theres always a chance im gonna go broke etc, and if that happens, i know that he wont be upset about the money etc (people earn good money in australia...) But im having trouble with the whole idea...
I am basically grinding breakeven on 25nl online now for a huuuuge amount of hands and just dont seem to get it going... i felt much more comfortable at brick and mortar casinos... i dont know why... So basically my problem is... What kind of staking would be reasonable? I was thinking about 20 stacks (starting at 1/2, im clearly not asking for money for higher games) and WHERE TO GO. where on earth can i make an at least decent living off a 1/2 game? (obv move up as soon as i got the roll and feel comfortable) Some asian countries? south america? i got absolutely no clue. Is this even possible? If i dont play poker i will go working somewhere and then leave the country, so please dont try to convince me to keep studying or sth... this is set. I am not really sure what exactly i am asking right now, i guess i just need general advice on this situation and all you guys can think of.
Thank you very much
shorshi
//E: i missed something... there basically wont be much of a "cut" because he's just a friend who wants to help me. It would be a 90/10 deal in my favor.

Tough games in Vegas during series
It seems right now the low & medium stakes poker games are about as tough as I have ever seen them. Gun-slingers coming in from all over the world, tough and competent players.
Big difference just between last year and this year, lots of games running -all over the place, but I have yet to find an easy one, and haven't even heard of a "soft" game recently.
Tonight one dealer told me, "at this rate in another year its going to be fold, fold, fold, chop, chop, fold, chop, rinse & repeat........until occasionally two big hands lock up together". I see this happening right now. VERY tough game at the 2/5 & 5/10 level....tough to make money in these games.

All over town, Bellagio, Arai, Wynn, V, MGM, RIO cash games.

That doesn't sound promising at all. I'm coming to town tomorrow. Low stakes seem any softer??

Tight does not equal tough, and loose does not equal soft. I usually prefer games where I have the option to iso vs games with 7 limpers per hand
