"2+2 told me to do this"

funny hand last night at a local casino

i was talking to another 2p2er at the table about the "PHIL IVEYS DAD at a bob marley concert" thread and blah blah blah. just after the other 2p2er says " shhhhh dont say that around here" refering to 2+2 " dont let ppl fing out about this site." we laugh and a few more hand go by and he says" how many ppl here at the casino do you think go on 2p2? i respond about 20% he seems a little surprised and says "about 10% " a few more hands go buy and i open for 15$ with 99 in middle position. the guy directly to my left ( who is sitting right between me and other 2p2er says " this is what 2+2 told me to do" and shoves all -in for 41$ i laugh a little and then SB calls for 41$... action is back to me for 26$ to call..... so i respond "oh yeah this is what 2+2 told me to do" i shove for my remaining 180$, SB goes into the tank for 2-3 minutes and finally calls

hero shows 99
Villian shows AQcs
and Villian SB shows KJ spades

flop is 8 high all diamonds turn is a 9 (so im 100% here now ) the deal says " done! nines good" and the river is a king! in which small stands up pounds the table and says " YES KINGS GOOD" as he is still celebrating he realizes that im getting the pot shipped to me and has to take a minute to figure out that my set way good( pretty funny)

SB asked for table change and villian one leaves.

moral of the story is if 40% percent of the table knew about 2p2 he would have folded KJsuited

crazy....

Thumbs up Wow, so live poker is just as soft as it was before ...

Let me just point out I haven't played Poker nor posted on this forum since the online ban.

I completely gave the game up in hopes of finding a 'real' income ..

Long story short, x amount of months have passed by (idk even know how long it's been) and I have a real job with great money.

Stepped into a casino last week and decided to just play strict ABC poker. The fish were still fish, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the game is just as profitable as before.

Cool story bro.

Very true.

Still saw fish moving in with bottom and mid pairs on the flop with 2+ others in the hand.

Was lol'ing the entire time.

Maybe she's from Pasadena?

Played 1/2NL yesterday at a local card room. This quiet, slightly grumpy little old lady, at least 85, sits down with $40, the table minimum, and no one gives her any notice. She proceeds to play like a maniac and walks away a couple hours later with over $800. It was insane. She was behind on so many flops and turns only to river 2-outers, 4-outers, etc. The critical hand was hitting a (needed) straight flush on the river vs 3 other all-ins to scoop a monster pot near the end of her session. After she left, the table exploded with chatter. She won 20 buy-ins in less than two hours. Never seen anyone so bad run so good in so short a session.

I am the fish.

As I donked off the last of my second buy in tonight at the Shoe in 1/2, I came to a horrible, depressing realization: I am the fish.

Oh sure, I could have just blamed the cards not hitting me (they weren't) or my opponents getting perfect flops after calling my big preflop raises with junk (it happened a few times). But if I did, I would be just be I denial.

I am the fish.

The worst part is I have just enough knowledge to know what a fish is. I know I am screwing up, but I keep making the same mistakes. I have even made mistakes that I have personally told other peoe not to do!

If I never knew this forum existed, it wouldn't be a big deal. But now I have just enough knowledge to make me aware of how terrible a player I am.

It is a little depressing.

Re: I am the fish.

So do some reading.

The first step to fixing the problem is realizing you have a problem. So, congrats!

Re: I am the fish.

Yup. Just like AA. The first step to getting out of alcoholism is admitting that you are an alcoholic.

I am a slow learner, and was a losing player for A COUPLE OF YEARS (04-05), before becoming a net profitable player.

It helped me immensely when I started keeping a poker journal. Back in the day (f'ck I sound old) I used to use a small notebook, and now it's even easier to do it now with all the apps on the smartphones. I personally use PokerIncome.

I felt like a fish again when I moved-up to 2/5 from 1/2, and took a while to adjust. I am about to move-up to 5/10 and I am 100% sure I will feel like a fish again. No worries, it's not that bad being the fish, assuming that you are not feeling the same two years down the line.

Good luck,

S

Re: I am the fish.

Take some time to do a self-appraisal in writing. List out what you think are your strengths and weakness in your poker game. Think about what you do really well, is it value betting? Is it getting paid when you have the nuts? Is it getting away from a bad situation/flop early? ie... figure out where most of your profit is coming from.

Now do the same for your weaknesses. What things are you doing consistently that cost you the most?

Now write yourself a short list of the successful things you are doing and keep it with you, or just look at it before a session and remind yourself of how you do these things with confidence.

Also look at a short list of areas you want to do better at, before you play a session.

After the session, review it, analyze it, and document it. For me, what works is writing down a good/great play I made in a session, and a bad/needs improvement play. This is in the notes column of my poker journal. I find one example a session is enough to improve with, without overloading the analytics.

As time goes by... revisit the list you wrote in the first place, and see if you've been able to move any weaknesses into the strength column. Keep working at it systematically like this and you will improve.

Good luck!

Yeah, the first step is realizing you have a problem.

The next step is posting this crap in BBV where it belongs.

Re: I am the fish.

Some good posts above. One big thing that helped me was trying to close the game between my A game and my C game. Live poker can be very boring and you've just gotta stay disciplined and focus on exploiting players while being very patient.

Re: 2012 Low-Content Thread

I am sad that it was decided I was low content. I wanted semi-serious responses, which is why I didn't post in BBV. Thanks to those of you with constructive responses.

I know it is all about practice. The problem is without cheap micro stakes online poker, I have trouble getting the practice I need because I only have a very limited amount of time and money I can invest in what is ultimately a hobby for me.

I do know that my biggest problem playing against good players is lack of patience when I am card dead. I also have a tendence to not only not fold, but try to solve problems by throwing even MORE money into an already lost hand.

Even knowing these are problems, it is hard to get myself to stop doing it.
