Re: 10/20 game at the M with a 5 figure loss - Anyone see this?
Way, way out of line for a dealer to write publicly about wins and losses.

That tilted me.
Interesting story though.

The casino is mentioned in the guy's blog. Maybe not in that particular entry, but in earlier ones.
M is a new casino that is not on the strip. It's not an acronym for Mirage, Mandalay, or MGM. Watch an episode of this season's Top Chef and you'll see it (repeatedly).

Re: 10/20 game at the M with a 5 figure loss - Anyone see this?
**** it all....if you show up to play 1/2 and wind up winning $15K regardless of how it happened that's one for the record books....even if they upp'd it to 10-20...point is dude was sat down to a 1/2 NL game and left later that night with...umm....75 bi's?
this goes back to what i was saying....the dude who won $15K prolly is a reg at higher stakes and was taking a stab at smaller games for a plethera of reasons and ran into some douche who thought he could issue a challenge to a player who's used to playing w/ 10x the swings of 1/2 and knew he had a huge edge.
edit on the edit: a lot of guys who aren't good players LOVE to issue higher stakes challenges and from my experience they rarely EVER go through....this is an anomaly.

Reason: edit: i was playing 1/2 and was challenged to play 10/20 by the guy who beat me out of a $150 AI pot...needless2say he stfu

Re: 10/20 game at the M with a 5 figure loss - Anyone see this?
OK, I am the kid in the black hat. My name is Sam Stein. I play all the bigger buyin tournaments and I generally play 25/50, 25/50 100 on bb or straight 50/100 at the Bellagio. I was playing Sunday tournaments and had some buddies come over after I was done. We all decided to go drink and play 1/2 at the M casino since I have never been there. Somehow they had a 10/20 game with 2 of the worst players I have seen playing heads up and I happened to have money on me. TxRedMan pretty much nailed the situation perfectly.
This 1 guy who gave away about $20,000, $14,000 of which went to me was possibly the worst player I have played with. He bets 3rd pair on 3 straight streets for no rhyme or reason just bets to bet. This makes it so easy and just wait for like top pair or better and get a ton of money in. I played the most unreal super exploitable strategy ever but it was completely irrelevant versus this guy. So this is a simple case of being at the right place at the right time, not nearly my best live cash session but given the whole situation I was ecstatic by the end of the night.

Re: 10/20 game at the M with a 5 figure loss - Anyone see this?
Cliff notes:
1.)Dealer thinks dude is a clown for losing 15k and being upset.
2.) Staff at the M doesn't want to run games. Apparently they get paid for standing around and escorting security, but not for actually running games.

Re: 10/20 game at the M with a 5 figure loss - Anyone see this?
Yea Mike, I run really good. The way this guy played it really was like free moneys. If he hit a bunch of ridiculous hands then there is a chance I could lose but it's quite unlikely. As I said before, all you really have to do vs this guy is wait for a hand like top pair, two pair, etc etc and then either call his bets or go to value town. He probably folded a total of like 10 hands in the 6 hours we played. I played a very loose style as far as starting hands go for a couple reasons. For starters it really kept him interested, if I sat there and folded like J7 to his raises then he would become disinterested. Also, given the way he played I can probably profitably call with nearly anything, he raised small preflop and then would hammer postflop.
I forgot to mention how the end of the night went. The dealer went into this a little bit in his blog, the link is in the OP. We played till like 8:00am when he made me agree to play until 10:00am. At 8:00am my friend who was in the game for $2,000 was up like $2,500 for a while which was a nice score for him but he ended up giving it all to the guy with AA vs a flopped two pair I believe. I was my friend's ride back home so he told me he would walk around the casino for like 15 minutes then maybe take a cab home. The 3rd hand of heads up he limps the button i raise to 80 with QJdd he makes its 150 more I call. Flop K93 with a diamond I check he bets 300 I call. Turn 10 I check he bets 500 I make it 1600 he calls. River J so 1 card straight, I bet 2500 he calls with AK and thats where everything turns to hell.
I don't really want to put hands we played in a forum like this but I feel knowing the bet sizes etc are fitting to understand the ending argument. At this point he starts to say that I didn't have to bet this much. I tell him that he was betting big before and as soon I got lucky I felt like I had to bet a decent amount. He was telling me that if I only bet 1000 that would have been fine and maybe vs someone like this I should've gone easy but I have never been in a game like this. He starts calling me a ****ing ***hole and says the a few days and mutters other such things before I finally call the game off. I text my friend to come back to the poker room because we are leaving. The guy then says we made an agreement to play until 10:00 and I told him I'm not going to sit here and let someone talk to me like this the entire time, I have some morals and this is where I was drawing the line. He said he would stop but I knew he wouldn't and when I still declined he resorted back to the name calling lol.
What a night.

This information is publicly available to anyone at a table, regarding all the others at the table. No one is mentioned by name anyway, and given the absolutely ridiculous length of the story, anyone who did attempt to attach significance to the amounts lost or won would have has a head assplode anyway

The M isn't necessarily the mirage. There is a casino called the M resort. Doesn't anyone watch top chef?
edit: I guess Bav won this week's high stakes challenge ;-) (top chef reference)

It would have been wiser for the initial post in this thread not to have mentioned the casino's name and for later posters not to have mentioned it quite so often, if at all.
My next trip to Vegas will definitely include a detour to this casino though. And I think I'll try to catch an episode of that Top Chef program that I keep missing.
