I noticed someone recently talking about how there should be a sticky with some constructive ideas of things that work regarding tilt. My idea is, we list all the things we've done (or do) that have worked in resolving tilt, whether for a short period of time or a long time. And then maybe a mod could make a sticky at the top of this forum with all the good ideas posted.

Here are some that I have had success with:
-cold water splashed on my face, or cold shower
-deep breathing exercises, namely, breathing in, holding for 3-5 seconds, and breathing out
-mindfulness. observing the tilting emotions from a detached perspective.
-using silly language to describe the event. eg, "you called into KdQcJc all in with 8c3c. what a pooper."
-smoking weed (to each their own). allows me to create the gap between the things that happen in poker, and my reaction to them.
-playing at a coffee shop (10x easier to remain calm for me knowing that other people can see me)

Hopefully some of these can help others, and hopefully some of you guys have some to add as well.

A lot of these perhaps are covering up tilt, but not resolving it? There's 2 parts to this, recognising tilt and remedying tilt. The hardest part for 1 is being able to do this. The easiest solution for 2 is to take a break.

I have a strong suspicion that most who suffer serious tilt issues require some type of anger management. I speak from personal experience and can say that ever since seeking serious therapy for issues having nothing to do with poker, my tilt issues have decreased dramatically. I suffer from alot of anger and low self worth surrounding experiences I had as a child, mostly relating to my mother. Poker used to trigger these issues for me without me even realizing it because I didn't even know what the root of my problems was yet. Needless to say, even beginning the work on dealing with these issues has helped me out at the tables (and everywhere else in life) far more than even Tendler's book.

Shakopee, therapy was where I made my best improvements too. I think most people are too ashamed to go though, which is why I figured this would give people a place to start on their search.

Therapy is awesome. I would've went way sooner if I'd been smart enough to realize I have a problem in the first place.

Create a cone out of paper. Put it on your head, eat a banana and sit in a corner until you're calm. Then do pushups until you're tired. It beats therapy.

Before Tendler's book, breathing and meditation techniques before and during sessions, getting up after every bad beat to 'walk it off' and cool off, stop-loss rules etc.
After Tendler's book, Tendler's book.

This is a good place to start. But it's like putting a bandaid over a bullet wound.

I'd be kinda curious to know if you actually went to therapy, and if not, how are you able to insist that it doesn't work? I'd further be interested to know if you would please clarify your position explaining why the different therapy methods aren't effective.

Also, would you like to offer proof to support your hypothesis regarding these superior methods to therapy?

Heres another:

-Reading psychology books. By learning about the brain and the way it works, it can put a spotlight on what you need to work on.

working out works surprisingly well. listen to music while you work out.

the hard part is when you are on tilt you don't wanna do anything (that includes going to the gym) so you got to force yourself to go out. plus working out is good for you so just do it

I read recently that working out has been proven to improve willpower in the brain. So working out could help players tilt less.

For me:
- understanding and accepting the game's probabilities and stats better/deeper
- understanding myself and my tilt triggers better, and knowing what to do in that situation.
EG: avoiding "self induced tilt", because of playing bad out of being tired, therefore quitting when tired, etc.

Having sex is a great way to release + recover after a bad session and avoid accumulated tilt.
