Superstition and the Mental Game

Was thinking about it some and the idea of any potential relaxation coming from a superstition, as OP was saying, could indeed benefit "athleticism." Stress and anxiety, as we cross a certain threshold, impede virtually every function of the central nervous system ... including the physical and mental. Anxiety can destroy performance - both physical and intellectual - so there may be very little distinction to be made re what it affects. It affects the CNS, and that's everything, including even automatic functions like digestion and blood pressure. Everything.
