Dear 2+2 Community!

I am a psychology student from Vienna. My diploma thesis is about the topic of mental toughness and poker. Our institute discovered some correlations between mental toughness and other sports such as basketball or taekwondo so I want to do a study with poker.

Besides mental toughness the questionnaire is about constructs like emotional control and risk taking.

Feedback from the previous studies showed that in answering the questionnaire it had immediate benefits for the interviewee because of their mental engagement with the topic.

If you want to see your results you can post your email address on the last page of the questionnaire. I will send you the results in approximately 2-4 months.

The questionnaire takes about 15 minutes to complete.

here is the link: https://www.soscisurvey.de/poker/?q=englisch
Thx in advance

I noticed the following problem with the survey design. Instead of having the ranking sequentially it lists them as " Strongly Disagree, agree, disagree,Strongly
Agree" which is counter-intuitive the two middle choices should be reversed. This happened at the 63% complete page but I didn't notice it until then so I'm not sure if they're all wrong or just on this page.

Thanks Cleverbeans. It was a mistake on my part. The study is originally in german and I was sloppy with the translation. Thankfully enough it was only in 1 questionnaire (1 page). All others have it like "strongy disagree-- disagree--agree-- strongly agree" I will look at the data and see if there is a tendency, perhaps nobody noticed it. Cleverbeans if you answered as you told would you be kind enough to send me you email per pn, then I would change your data, if you posted you email in the feedback field.

@ aseHigh
I want the results be more than just scores, it will be some information which you can apply. I have already some participants in the "german version" which will get the results first and the english version second. So be patient

Why do you think people are able to assess their own qualities and grade them with any amount of certainty?

I know what you are getting at. But in order to answer your question properly I would be needing to whether you mean that self ratings are of more accuracy than proxy ratings?

I thought only the clinically depressed were of the ability to accurately judge themselves.

I would take the test, but I don't wanna ruin the curve with my off the charts mental toughness.

a good one Bob, but I think you are not the only one who is ruining the curve and because of that it is not a problem

Why do you post so many dumb comments in psychology?

No loss there. Especially when you write some idiotic comment about how sitting in a corner is better than therapy, and ignore a request to elaborate or give any real insights.

And here, you can't even answer a simple question regarding your stupid comments. You simply pout and tell me I'm on ignore. The grown up equivalent of running away from home.

Ha, silly me .. I thought this was done on purpose to test our attention span while at the same time (unconsciously? ) making us be as honest as possible.

Glad I paid attention, I found it weird then just got along with it, hope that doesn't actually sway the test. OP could let us know ?

You fill out the study only for yourself, because if you are honest, you get a good feedback about your strengths & weaknesses.

Cleverbeans, aseHigh and others if you answered as you told would you be kind enough to send me you email per pn, then I would change your data, if you posted you email in the feedback field.

There were also some questions twice and/or similiar ones.

I thought this was intentionally though.

While there was some problematic questions (illogical or not correlating with real poker pro), still it was way better test than I've ever seen. And I completed a lot of such tests.

Good luck, very nice job.

Done.

For some questions I have disabilities that affect my 'standard mental ability'. would have been nice to have a field to give notes. I know that these minor variations get evened out as more responses pour in.

@Monsieur thats a problem of standardized testing.

In a face to face setting its not a problem though.

@Elrazor
the paper would be in german. If I send the results there will be mostly english papers for reference.

thx to all for participating.

Hi,

I would be interested to read the paper. My skill in German language is less than adequate and I would welcome the challenge. (Only way to improve/ maintain skill level is to use the skill)

You can reach me via PM or I can PM my contact info for you should you prefer it that way.
