ive seen a similar question before but couldn't find the thread. but id like your insight as to why i should or shouldn't. heres the story. Im at the Rio looking to play 45min-1hr so i can get my free stand mixer the following morning a few weeks back and my very first hand im dealt a straight flush and the house awards me $100. i ended up playing 5.2 hours and cashing out +995(was up 1500+ at one point and was about to leave but the game wouldve broke) anyway question being. apart from the obvious No on a Bad Beat Jackpot awarding 40k+ should we as players who track our play with apps like Session Logger(what i use) and Poker Journal( seems to be popular among Iphone users) include high hand money into our apps when reporting our win/loss sessions? why or why not

yeah, its part of playing live poker. you dont notice it but every pot you win, you pay a dollar into the high hand jack pot, and that dollar loss is included in your winrate, so you minds as well include when you win too.

Great answer i didn't think of it that way. are you against adding a huge bad beat jackpot? im referring to the ones which pay 20k+

Yes, you should add both. After all they are funded by rake and promotional dollars that come out of the hands you win. If you play during the times high hands are offered, you also increase your expectation making it worth tracking again.

It depends what youre trying to track. If you want to know your true winrate (i.e. what you expect to earn in the long term), then this will include an expected chance of winning high hands and BBJs. Normal play will converge to expectations over a few thousand hours, high hands will take a bit longer and BBjs won't converge over a lifetime.

No, knowing how well you hit high hands gives no indication as to how well you play poker. Now you're stats are how well you play poker + how well you play the lottery. Not good. This will simply add variance to your winrate for no reason.

So if I win a BBJ for 40k or something do I include that? And now suddenly I am making like $100/hr in a 1/2 game? If I don't include that then I would not include a HH either.

As I said above - It depends whether your question is "How well do I play poker?", or "On average how much do I expect to win per hour in the long run?" or "How much have I made from poker per hour?"

Either way there are probably better ways to allow for income from promotions than including your actual winnings.

I track both... Promo winnings definitely relevant to know how much money you make, but I track my "pure" 1-2 NL win rate separately without promos included. Then I have an overall win rate that includes all stakes and promos.

Keeping track of the promo-free rate could also be useful for expectations when your room has no promos running. The expected value of promos for something like a hot seat or high hand is pretty easy to estimate if you just divide the hourly prize by the number of active players. (Caveat that limit players have a better chance of winning high hands since they see more showdowns, etc.)
