My relationship with 2+2

Hey guys, I loved 2+2 when I was 21-24. thought it was mediocre at 25 and generally thought it is one of the most dog**** useless forums imaginable at 26-27.

Does this have to do with 2+2 or my brains development? I would guess both. OMG WTF LOLZ TLDR just got really boring, but was fun for awhile. I feel like there was actually some kinda biological change in my brain.

This is a mostly serious question.

Re: My relationship with 2+2

When you read the same forum everyday things start to get stale, we as humans love new and unexpected things!

Had you limited yourself to only a fraction of the time you used to spend here in the beginning you would NOT feel this way.

same here, i loved it at 18-20 as a lurker, made 2k+ posts from 20-24 and regularly browed BBv, the zoo, and NVG....and now I just think it's **** and can't be bothered posting here because it seems lame and I just don't give a **** anymore. I can't explain it. I used to want to be a part of the poker "community' but i really dont give a **** since I'm a reclusive misanthrope, even online. I've been enjoying lurking and will prolly continue to do that though when I need some laughs from BBV/NVG 5 star threads.

Re: My relationship with 2+2

I think the change is called maturity. A recent poll showed a bell curve peaking at age 21, so I bet there are a ton of underagers on here. I was that age too, and really got a kick out of arguing/dissing on usenet newsgroups. I grew up and realized the stress of flame wars are not worth it. I won't even respond to people who provoke/argue nonsensically with me online anymore.

The signal to noise ratio has gone WAAY down here in the past 5 years. I used to frequent Stanford Wong / Bishop Snyder / Don Schlesinger's gambling forums, and have been lurking on 2+2 since it's inception. Back in the day we were all insiders, and questions would get sincere answers. A lot of bad advice is posted here now, and some long threads have no correct answers at all.

So the question is, what can we do to make 2+2 better? I think mods deleting useless posts that say only "this" would be a start. Also, a posting limit of a few posts per day might help. When someone starts a thread and 2 hours later we're on page 20, not many people can read the whole thread before responding.

Maybe take Apple's appstore approach, and force people to prove their age by providing a credit card on file, which could also be used at a 2+2 online e-book store to improve sales. Or perhaps implement an age filter, where all posts by people under 21 can be ignored. I sense many of 2+2's troubles are cause by a drooling mass of 13 year old boys.

age verification doesnt work. I am in the Pokerstrategy.com community and you have to be 18 to join most of their forums and these forums are worse than 2+2 is now. But the moderators are much more active there because they get paid, so all the trollthreads get deleted pretty fast and trolls get banned or read only.

Re: My relationship with 2+2

I think the forums are great. If you want to talk strategy, go to a strategy forum. If you want to talk ****, go to bbv. If you want to learn intellectual ****, go to smp. It is what you make of it.
