just find your comfort zone and don't give two ****s about what others may think about it.. as long as you keep to yourself and don't harass others at the table it's all good.

Yeah, unfortunately it's very common angling. Don't fall for it. Always show your hand in order. The best part is when they get angry at you when you force them to show and then show a strongish hand. They're angry that you knew you likely had the best hand but still forced them to show. They're angry.. their angle failed. Let them be angry. If it's a reg, they'll learn their lesson and won't try this on you again. Other regs will take note too.

There's a few other variations of this angling. "Announcing"e.g. "I got a Ten. u got a pair?".. and it's like: "no, bitch! it's called SHOW down, not say down, let's go beautiful!" One-card wonders - trying to show only 1 card.. "Both cards, BITCH!"

And... my personal fav: THE NEIGHBORLY NON-SHOWDOWN SHOWDOWN.

2 douches at neighboring seats are HU OTR and there's a showdown. Let's say douche A and douche B. Douche A has to show first. Douche A lifts his cards and tilts them so only Douche B can see. Then Douche B does the same, Douche A realizes he's beat and mucks his cards face DOWN. Dealer starts pushing the pot to Douche B.. then Douche B mucks his cards face DOWN. So we just had a "showdown" where the table didn't see ANY of their hands

P.S. In all honesty many poker players believe that it's proper etiquette to show your hand ASAP if you think it's likely to win regardless of showdown order. I strongly disagree and think that's silly. I think poker is a game of information. When someone has to show before me I have a right and I WANT to see that information regardless of my holdings.

There is behavior that is part of the game of poker and then there is behavior that is doing anything you can to win. Poker is a game of communication and, technically, blocking your own communication/hiding by wearing a hat, sunglasses or putting your hands in front of your face is an angle(I do this). Needling is an angle because making your opponent annoyed or angry isn't part of poker any more than screaming during your opponents swing in golf. Having your bet called then sitting there hoping your opponent will show his hand first is an angle too(I fall for this and, damn, it makes me angry cuz I'm just trying to be neighborly).

As long as so much angling is legal and widely practiced I see no ethical requirement for me to unilaterally disarm.

I think some people thinking this angling behavior in poker isn't angling, that poker is war and anything goes, is because part of poker is trying to deceive each other and deception is really "bad" so anything really does go.

I think check raising used to be thought of as unethical.
Except that this is banned in golf. Great try though!

And if you aren't doing anything you can to win within the confines of the rules, you're leaving money at the table. You can have your morals, and I'll have your money.

Is coughing and sneezing banned too? Does it say in the universal rules of golf you're not allowed to clear your throat by accident?

And why only do things that are within the confines of the rules? Why not cheat? "You can have your morals, and I'll have your money".

Why not cheat? Is that a serious question?

Is it worth it however, to do so at the cost of pissing off any unknown number of recreational players?
