I quit smoking weed and now I can't... sleep...

So it's 8:30 am and I'm still wide awake, again.

I'm just wondering if anyone else who quit pot after many years of smoking had this same problem? How long before it got better?

I think I'm going to try playing my poker sessions earlier in the day, cause gambling definitely gets me wired. But still, I stopped playing like 6 hours ago and I don't feel the least bit tired. I've just been lying in bed for so long.

if your able to control yourself i think the best thing is to smoke one time at night. Its the best feeling in the world when you wake up after munching out and having a good night sleep stoned. You'll be excited to wake up and start the day with a smile on your face feeling like a million bucks. I know i do.

But then again no one knows the reason you quit.

You might try biofeedback. Heartmath emwave for example is small and portable. Healing Rhythms is another example for the computer. It sounds like crunchy hippie crap, but the peer reviewed data is outstanding. Oh, and it's legal.

I think the real question is why did you quit weed and what do you have to do to start smoking again?

Re: I quit smoking weed and now I can't... sleep...

I quit smoking for about a year back in 2001 after smoking daily for the previous 4 years. It took me about 2.5 solid weeks before I was able to get into any kind of sleeping regiment. There's definitely a lot of sleepless nights in the beginning and if you do fall asleep you'll probably find yourself waking up in coldsweats. During the transition phase, drink tons of water, gatorade and for gawd's sake stay away from all caffeine, sugars, and uppers in general. Maybe play poker earlier if you can find a decent game selection and then squeeze in a good work out at the gym or a long run after your poker session. This should help ease you into a little less energetic evening and hopeful you'll pass out from exhuastion before midnight. Hope this helps. Oh, and I started tokn again in early 2002 and have a grin from ear to ear every morning once I wake up. Bud is also the only foreign substance or illicit activity I partake in. I'm really not a drinker, don't smoke cigarettes, and work out daily. I have a lot of energy and smoking is really the only that brings me back down to everyone else's pace.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Unfortunately I can't smoke a bit before bed, I need to quit for good. I have a psychiatric illness and my doctor said that drugs / alcohol would make it worse. I've been smoking the past few years anyway but recently I've noticed some of the symptoms returning so I've made the decision to live the sober life.

Look into it yourself, or ask your Psychiatrist about biofeedback as an option! All the best brother!

You deserve props for taking the initiative and getting the help of a psychoanalyst. And now your making a conscious effort to adjust your diet, in hopes of mitigating stressors. Sounds like your on the right path man. If you can make it through the first 3 weeks you'll have a positive foundation on which to build. Best wishes.

Re: I quit smoking weed and now I can't... sleep...

Set your alarm at a decent time everyday. This way if you're up until 8:30 and have your alarm set for lets say 10am you'll only get an hour and a half of sleep. If this repeats itself, eventually, you'll be so tired, falling asleep will be no problem.

Or you'll go insane from lack of sleep.
