How to stop playing differently when there's a promo? How to stop playing differently when there's a promo?

1/2 NL, 10player live
Promo = $500 high hand every 10min, minimum full house Aces.

UTG: $300
mp (Hero = Q Q): $500
co: $200

Preflop:
utg limps, hero raises to $12, co calls, blinds fold, utg calls

flop($39): 2 3 Q
utg checks, hero bets $20, co folds, utg calls

I would normally bet more, say $30, in this spot to charge the draws.

turn($79): T
utg checks, hero bets $30

WTF am I doing betting so little on a wet board?!
i was kicking myself IMMEDIATELY after i made my bet.

$500 is a lot relative to a $1/2 game and it's (small) pots.
when i play $2/5, i completely ignore the promo because $500 isn't that much relative to stacks/pots in that game.

So how do i stop myself from playing differently?
Or is it correct to play differently because of the implied odds of hitting the promo?

Not sure I'm understanding the promo correctly, if you hit quads you get an extra $500? You've got one out so ~2% per street chance of hitting it. You should just ignore it in that case.

You could let it affect your play in some spots (facing an all-in you could take account of your "jackpot ev" in addition to the size of the pot) but in position with the nuts is probably a time to get paid and forget about your one out jackpot draw

Just do the math. About 2-2.5% per out, $500 if it hits, $10-$12.50. If you have a set of aces and aces full play it could be a consideration depending on your percentage to hit the hand, if you have AA on say A49 then it might be worth accounting for as you have a 7 outs to turn a qualifying hand and 10 outs to river one and it's a board you're more likely to get folds on so in that case yes you'd consider playing for the jackpot if the stacks are shallow and the pot is small.

If you're drawing to a gutshot straight flush or quads to one out, don't worry about it unless the pot is like $3 bvb or whatever.

I play mostly 8-16 LHE at Talking Stick that has a rather 'easy' to hit BBJ: Aces full of 10's or better beaten, kicker plays. I've seen players dust off hundreds of thousands over the years trying to hit it and every time someone asks them why they played a bad hand or allow someone a free card bec they might hit it they say 'It's a jackpot hand!' When I play a possible BBJ hand I ignore the damn thing entirely. Sometimes I get asked why and I say 'Bec I've seen players dust off hundreds of thousands over the years trying to hit it, that's why.'

Just ignore the BBJ, imo, it's almost never worth it unless the amount is huge.
