Like many other poker players I use herbal- and multivitamin supplements in increase my energy and focus. I don't want to rely on drugs like ritalin and adderall, so I do a lot of research on products so see what is best for me. I spend around 30 to 40 dollars each month on supplements, and I was wondering how much other people spend on them.

I'm not a big fan of prescribed medicines like adderall. What I found have helped me best are korean ginseng for energy, DMAE for focus, and ginkgo biloba for energy and memory. Rhodiola rosea helps against stress, and of course I take multi-vitamins and fish-oil.

What also helps is creatine: not only fitness-freaks benefit from this, it also keeps the mind sharp.

When I take supplements I perform better during the whole day and I'm always looking for new things.

What is DMAE? Creatine is good for extra few reps in gym, I didn't notice any sharper mind using it though. Might have to try it again.

I've been trying some Nootropics (cognitive enhancers) lately. Piracetam, Aniracetam, and Phenibut. Supposedly, they help with bloodflow and oxygen to the brain. I haven't really been too impressed with the racetams but the Phenibut gives a crazy buzz and messes with your equilibrium. I took too much and felt like **** the whole day.

I was hoping to get something similar to Adderall but it's more of an indirect focus. I read about a guy that drove around in his car until he ran out of gas because he was flipping through the radio stations trying to find a specific song while lit up on Adderall. It would be sweet to 24 table for 16 hours and not even realize it.

Anyway, you can get a ton of the stuff (powder) for under $50 online.

Our understanding of vitamins seems to be sketchy at best..

Remember when we thought taking beta-carotine would be a good idea...
Then we find it causes cancer in not taken with vitamin C?

One recent study showed amazingly.
On average people who take multi-vitamin supplements who don't need them live shorter lives than people who don't.

Recently...
The only vitamin that seems to help normal people is vitamin D.

But we keep finding new contradicting evidence...

One thing seems true...

The people who should be taking vitamins are those people who can't afford them.

Haha, the choices in the poll are hilariously small.

Supplements are ****. I do use lots of them but I lift weights pretty seriously so they're mostly related to muscle/strenght building, and they're mostly ineffective.

There are 2 ways to increase focus : healthy lifestyle (good sleep, regular exercise), drugs.

Stuff that you can legally purchase without a prescription = doesn't do anything.

exercise and good diet with lots of vegetables & fruit is important, and you can get supermarket-brand multivitamin supplements very very cheap these days.. I picked up 120 of these "sour gummy bears" at Safeway just this week for only $7 in 2 bottles that should last me 4 months.

This.

If you exercise regularly you will feel a lot better all round. I also drink chrysanthemum tea after a work out, its kind of a form of green tea. You can get it in most chinese stores.

i take alfalfa which is kinda like a multivitamin . full of nutrients and it helps me with my allergies. i used to be a big fan of taking a multi ,but I dont see a need for it if your eating a decent amount of veggies. I don't take creatine anymore, but i agree it gives u a high like caffeine. I also drink a lot of green tea which is improves overall health and stimulates my mind while playing poker. I've been taking fish oils for over 2 years, kinda ran out last couple months lol. Also drink protein shakes couple times a week I feel like. Been takin a probiotic each day this past month to help digestion.

I guess my total bill will be around 10-25 dollars a month for supplements. I try my best to each extra veggies and fruits to get minerals and vitamins rather than taking it in a pill form. oh yah i chew a lot of gum, its + ev imo.

Redbulls are free at the pokerroom I go to. As well as cigs, in my country you can smoke inside casinos. The only supplement I purchase is Multi-Vitamins monthly, mainly because I'm sleep deprived from playing poker and my part-time job. Other than that, I'm not so healthy mainly to booze. Kinda like a hypochondriac, I try to take care of my health a lot....but damn common colds are always following me....
