Re: How to grind long hours with out getting burn out

Play fewer days in a month; approx 15-20 seems to work well for most people.

Most of us got into this for the additional freedom. I didn't take a single full day off from poker between 2003 and 2006. That hurt my overall bankroll and life quality. More days off enjoying your freedom > better life balance > better attitude when you play= no burnout and better results.

Obv top up stamina and focus with the better health/diet advice

Re: How to grind long hours with out getting burn out

Tons of good advice ITT. I typically play between 6-14 hours a day depending on my mood, games, etc. I find that if you take 30-60 min break about half way through your session the 2nd half goes much better. Sometimes I work out, sometimes I catch up with friends, just do something to shut your mind off from the madness. Putting in long hours isn't for everyone, so figure out the times when you are most profitable and taylor your schedule to fit.

I'm just looking for some tips on how to grind long hours consistently without getting too burnt out.

Thanks for any advice
If you are not feeling up to playing you shouldn't play.

Typically I work 2 - 2 1/2 weeks per month. During this time I work a minumim of 8 hours per day, but a lot of times more. I work everyday -7 days a weeks. My entire focus in life is playing cards -I do nothing else, I don't talk on the phone, I don't watch movies, I don't socialize w/ friends. This may not work for everyone, or anyone else- LOL , but works for me.

Then on my 2 weeks off I totally get away from the Casino's, and pretty much everything to do w/ poker, with the expectption of staying current on some websites.

This 2 on, 2 off schedule makes for good balance in my life, it provides good income and plenty of time off.
Interesting attitude.

Re: How to grind long hours with out getting burn out

I think the best idea is to play when you want to play. Don't even factor in your goals as a consideration. Bottom line, regardless of your goals, do you want to play right now? That's really what decides it for me. Not everyone is built to grind out 12 hour sessions a day on 10 tables. In fact, most people aren't. I play 1 table when I feel like it and have a winrate of 9.51 bb/hr. It's a pretty slow process, lol, but it sure beats the -8.72 bb/hr I had when trying to run 6 tables at a time and play on a schedule.

Personally, I'm just not built for that kind of thing. I wish I were, but I'm not and my results prove it. Maybe someday with enough practice I'll be able to run 3 or 4 tables seventeen days a week, but I'll save that for another day. Play at a pace that you feel honestly comfortable with. You have nothing to prove to anybody and there's no expectation. You don't need to play five times a week and/or on a ton of tables if it's not working for you. Do what you honestly want to do.
