Not sure if it belongs here. Anyway...

I've been getting destroyed by the horrid V-monster for a few months now. I get my $ in good only to get rivered (sometimes turned, but rvr is even more bitter a pill to swallow). My dominating hands become dominated, AAs get cracked, etc etc etc. I've tried to take a few days break to get my mind off poker and come back, but I still get similar crappy results. I've tried switching live to online and vice versa. Nothing seems to work. I'm not playing poorly, but that opponents are sucking out and drawing out and outflopping me.

I wonder how you guys handle these bad patches? Not sure if I need to make a sacrifice to the poker gods. It's getting really ridiculous. Please help.

Take a week off. Lots of physical exercise, maybe go to a beach or some natural beauty that's relaxing too.

Short term - Close eyes, 10 deep breaths, ice cold shower, exercise.

Long term - CBT?

Also, don't check cashier/tracker whilst playing.

I think the best thing to do is: nothing

Have a break, walk in the park, relax and always be sure: there are new opportunities in the future.

Going through the same ATM. Its been worse than I thought was possible, and I have been through some rough periods earlier which I thought the same; it was worse than I thought was possible.

I think the most imprtant thing is realizing how large the variance can get in the games you are playing, and beeing properly rolled for them or overrolled.

And beeing comfortable with the fact that poker is a game of high variance.

Would reccomend the book "the poker mindset" that has a lot of good info about how to deal with variance and downswings.

This is getting f*cking ridiculous. Sigh...

tilt due to variance is common in most players and usually leads to poor decision making, whether you want ot believe it or not, part of your losses, i gaurantee, are from mistakes and bad play on your part due to your initial run bad.

the best way to deal with all this is not to just keep playing until you run yourself dry, but to find a solid way to learn and practice your game to improve and worry more about improving then playing. find a short term staking/coaching deal and learn from a higher level player, make some changes and hopefully improvements and learn new concepts, the confidence you gain from gaining new info and making new epiphanies may be enough itself to turn your winrate around as variance starts to balance out again as it always will

In my case there is no way I'm tilting. It never affects my game. I just get bb A LOT, i.e. I always get my $ in good.

I know others I have already have said so,

but I have to repeat their advice for the sake of emphasis.

READ these two books:

• The Poker Mindset

"Always get my money in good", "no way I'm tilting" ... mmm don't like these statements at all.

Are you playing tournaments or cash games OP?
