I actually bought an Omega and a Rolex last week.

Took them both back on Tuesday.

I think it's highly popularised (at least in sitcoms) that women tend to carry cash in bras, so the advice to seek cash in men's pants is not really a secret.

Is men carrying money among their gentiles popularised though, I mean there would be a lot of rubbing wouldn't there? Unless of course you wrapped each note around your slong individually...And then tied an elastic band around to keep it secure, but ouch what about the circulation.

@Lego05
Unit (YOU-nit): Banks normally wrap bills in roughly half inch-high stacks of 100 bills each, so there would be $100 x 100 = $10,000 in such a stack.

ETA: OP is crazy to walk around with this on him in everyday life, then post about it online.

You should realize that a broker statement and a wad of cash that you don't spend are essentially the same. Money is an idea, not something physical.

I guess if you also carry a gun, there's no problem with carrying that much cash.

If i had 10 grand to carry around with me id probably do it, I mean, you never know when you might randomly want to buy a car when you've quickly nipped out for a pint with your pals...

Because they are usually insured against theft or other loss and have specific vin/serial numbers associated that are usually on file with the place of purchase that prove you are the owner.

With cash it is practically impossible to recoup losses from theft/fire/etc

10K is not going to get you a descent car.

Put a $5 bill on the outside so you are less likely to draw attention

Why not just spend the 10k on getting your tiny penis enlarged?

I disagree, cash still feels better to me:

I think like 6K is the right amount. Rubber band it with DL and Amex and your ready to roll. Fits nicely in your left hand pocket. We are gamblers right? Never know when you might need it to bet. Worried about getting jacked? Carry 26 dollars and your Chase card, like every other 37 year old woman in the country, or figure out how not to be a pussy and get robbed in the first place.

I think the answer of why you carry that much is because it make you feel a certain way: important, comfortable, secure, or any number of things. But you are not alone.

Before this post, I had never considered why I developed the same habit. I prefer to have exactly $10,000 in cash rubber-banded, though I too use a credit or debit card for expenses. The ocassional cash tip comes from some smaller bills I keep seperately. So there is not practical purpose. This habit developed this because of live poker and I guess it started to be the norm for me.

I wonder if this thread would be viewed differently by age. This was routine practice for live players in from 95ish-2005ish maybe. In many B&M Cardrooms you could cash out virtually any amount of money without much scrutiny as long as made ever the smallest attempt to reduce the amount into several less than $10K amounts. Now, virtually all sites track transactions as low as $3,000 and total daily amounts, then send CTRs to the IRS for $10K and over totals. I think that has had an impact on cash carrying live players.

Now I am really wondering why I need to have $10K in my pocket.

I'm sure tougher guys than you have been robbed. Or do you have some master plan for when 2-3 armed men bumrush your vehicle at a red light?

Definitely no tough guy, but I think most robberies are definitely caused by carelessness. Always Valet, leave two car lengths between you and the car ahead of you. Don't spend a lot of time in parking garages. Avoid isolated areas. Don't go to private games that are cash settled. I always ask myself if where I am walking through is a good spot to jack someone and get away, if it is I go the long way. But your'e right, if three armed guys surround me they are getting what I have. I mean really, what do you do when you bring 2k to play and win 5K, get a casino check? I have never done that unless it was a tournie score.

There's two downsides to carrying that much cash.

1. Getting robbed
2. The feds

1. If people know you have that much cash, they'll consider robbing you. Friends, hookers, poker players, random scumbags, whoever. So, you can't really brag about it without exposing yourself to robbery.

2. If you make a purchase with $10,000 or more in cash, the feds find out about it and they will investigate you for money laundering. Even if you deposit it into a bank, a red flag will be sent to the government.

$10,000 is the exact amount that draws people's attention. The people that investigate terrorism transfers will investigate your purchases and deposits. This is common practice with the IRS, the DEA, and the FBI. Anything in the real world involving $10,000+ in cash will be examined. Typically, only drug dealers use this much cash.

Keep your cash purchases and cash deposits under $10,000 if at all possible. Although if you're doing something illegal, they'll hit you with a "structuring" charge for avoiding the $10,000 threshold. Feds like money and they'll look for every opportunity to seize yours.

Also, don't forget about that poker player that left like $300,000 in a brown paper bag in the back of a cab earlier this year in Vegas (that he was lucky to get back)......or the $50,000 that two poker players had confiscated when they were travelling to a poker tournament.

If you get pulled over and the cops find $10,000, they will take it. You can likely reclaim it later if you prove you obtained it by legal means, but they will take it. When law enforcement sees large amounts of cash, they take it first and ask questions later. You look like a drug dealer in the eyes of the government, even though you're not.

The only reasons you should be carrying 10k on you is if you play 10/25+ or if you don't have anywhere secure to store it.

If I'm going to like Walmart I'll carry like $1k on me tops. That's an amount that if stolen would be no big deal and I wouldn't feel a necessity to have to pull my handgun out and start shooting thugs.
