Re: Give me a frank and honest assessment...

LHE doesn't look dead to me, but it can get dull. It's more or like, what do you prefer, grinding lots of small edges by making sound decisions, or surfing the NL table, the ups-downs the crashes, and the drownings. There's really no other game like NL.

I'm playing on Global Poker now because of you. They only gave me $2 and 10,000 gold coins. IDK where this $30 per month comes from. PM me details I guess.

Re: Give me a frank and honest assessment...

When you go to www.globalpoker.com, scroll down to the bottom and click "Sweeps Rules". When the page comes up search for "Global Poker Sweepstakes Credits". You're on your own from there .

The bottom line is that the main difference between a gambling site and a sweepstakes site is that for a sweepstakes site, THERE MUST BE NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. The fact that no purchase is necessary is the backbone of the legality of the site.

The challenge, then, becomes how do they generate revenue if they're essentially giving away free money. It is true that when they give you the $2, chances are you're going to give the $2 right back to them in rake within a couple hundred hands, so it's not like they're hemorrhaging (thank you Google Chrome spell checker!!!) money.

Having said that, there are $1/$2NL, $2/$4NL and $2/$4 PLO games running where the average pot is several hundred dollars and I'm fairly certain that not every single one of those people built up their rolls starting from the free $2. Those games are generating an insane amount of rake.

I don't know if you've heard of NLOP.com, but they're a 100% play-money site that has several real-money no-buy-in tournaments every week, and somehow they generate more than enough revenue to cover their operating costs, and they've been up and running for years. If *they* can stay in business, so can Global Poker as long as they're not stupid.

Was that everything you wanted to know and then some????

Bloggy-style post 05/22/2017

I tried shortstacking 1/2NL at Winstar - details of the session can be seen here:

I moved over to LHE after 2 hours at NL and won back my losses and more. I felt like I played fairly well. I'm sure there's a hand here and a hand there I could have played better but for the most part when I felt I had an edge I pushed it and protected my chips when the odds were against me.

1. If you like NLHE or PLO and you live in the US, you should seriously check out that Global Poker site you've been seeing advertised in the banners. It's totally US-legal because you don't have to risk penny one of your own money - you can look under "Terms and Conditions" for their AMOE (alternate method of entry) and they will give you $30 per month of free money - you can either immediately cash it out or put it on the poker tables. The play is almost play-money soft.

2. I'm considering learning short-stacked NL. Since Global is so soft I've been using it to practice. Here's a thread with the discussions I've had with other live players:

3. One week from today I leave for the Poker Cruise. AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH it's going to be the longest week of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey man, was interested in that free 30 bucks from GP, but couldnt find the 'terms and conditions' on their page... been looking around for a while.
