Im sure it helps, if you actually need it in the first place. And if you need it in the first place you probably see it helping in other areas of your life. If your just a rec user its probably a bad idea in the long run

I have used adderall to play poker. I dont have ADD. Like others in this thread have stated, it does give you good mental endurance. I have played some very long marathon sessions when I have taken adderall. But as others have stated as well, it is easier to get angry/frustrated when you are on it. I have played online poker professionally for several years and have never had any tilt issues, but on the few occassions that I have taken adderall, I am much more inclined to tilt during a long session. I am just much more on edge the entire time. There are also side effects as others have said, such as lack of appetite, difficulty sleeping the night after taking it etc.

So yes, it does help you get longer sessions, but it is certainly at a cost.

When I used it, it was a huge help to the longevity of my quality play in terms of making the "+EV move" due to playing level 4 poker and having the concentration to recognize all of the factors hours into a session.

These days, I could not take it if I tried, but I am not sure if I would need it anyway after years of experience.

I don't have ADHD but have played poker a few times on Adderall. I find Adderall works better in live marathon situations, (especially deep stack multi-day tournaments with long levels) because my brain is moving a mile a minute and I have lots of time to process everything that I'm considering, and helps fight boredom. When I'm multi-tabling online there are so many quick decisions to be made (more tables, fewer handed, and faster paced play), I actually found the Adderall distracting, affecting my judgment, intensifying my moods (especially when running bad), and making me high. I had to put music on to calm myself down. The next time I tried it I cut my dose in half (to 5mg) and that did help. I was calmer and more focused actually. But if I want to put in long hours online I just drink a 5-hour energy shot. It works a lot better for me and it's easier to get. So for now I'm going to save my Adderall for live tournaments, and partying on the weekends. It's awesome to drink with, but I didn't tell you that.

Modafinil (e.g. modalert) can give you the main benefits (mental energy, motivation, wakefulness) of adderall, but without the high and the bad comedown. Also it sounds impossible, but it can keep you awake just as easily as adderall through an all-nighter, yet if you actually want to sleep it doesn't keep you up. Neither will increase your poker A game in any direct fashion, but they can help motivate you to analyze hands and/or study and enjoy the process.

I took 15mg of Adderall for the first time last week and I thought it was pretty cool. Then the next 3 nights I took it and I literally felt no difference with it. Is this typical? Is 15mg not enough?

Wow I could say whatever here - double it, treble it - would you do it?

Getting dosing advice from strangers on the internet is like natural selection for the 21st century.

Personally I don't think anyone truly needs speed. Whether pharmaceutical or otherwise. It might help you gain a small edge in the shortrun. But good sleep and strong mental health is a way better way to go about it. But if you know anything about drugs, esp. hard ones it is Soo not worth it. Just my opinion though.

And if your not feeling 15mg already your building up a tolerance which will just make you need more to get the feeling you desire. Stop now and save yourself the mental breakdowns that come from it.

if illegal speed makes your teeth fall out, then legal speed would to. the exact same chemical (amphetamine) does not discriminate based upon legal status, you know.

and by the way, no drugs that i know of make a person's teeth fall out... it'ssugary snacks which do that.

Some stimulants, like amphetamine and mdma, do cause many users to absent-mindlessly grind their teeth, which can be bad for them, but to avoid this you can chew some gum or learn to quit doing it, it just takes some responsibility.

Speed is very very addictive, believe me - more so than anything else IMO.

Just saying: be careful

Traditionally you double up to get the same effect (with any psychoactive drug).
But the act of chasing that initial effect is what leads to dependency and death or having a very hard time stopping.
I agree with the above - quit while it's still easy.
