it's player dependent. in general, you'll be able to grind longer and probably focus better but in the long run, people will tell you it's not worth it. if you are that curious, just try it.

I have found that this type of stuff helps you pay attention to the game, but comes with a few side effects that may be -ev.

For example, you may be tempted to rush into a decision. Your judgment will be effected also. I find that I think people are lying a lot more on adderall, and I find I am more aggressive. Both of which are bad for my game, and I end up calling and betting into people obviously telling me they have me beat.

Oh, and after about 6 months you may develop stomach ulcers, and it will make you shaky (my leg won't stop from my years of taking it as a child).

I would say it may help you play more, but not win more.

Read Mike Matusow's book. He talks at length about how adderall effects his game.

mike matusow also cries like a 3 year old everytime a 60% hand doesn't hold up. about how 'nobody runs as bad as him'

he's good but he's one of the most inconsistent pros

I have been prescribed adderall for about 7 years to treat my adhd. It definitely help with concentration, but I would be very cautious in how you use it. I feel that it gave me the ability to stay up longer if needed & was a life saver after 36 hours without sleep.

I don't know anything about acquiring the drug..
is it hard to get a prescription? or can you buy it off the shelf?

A prescription is required. Your family physician can write the Rx if they feel it is appropriate. Kind of expensive without insurance. Depends on whether or not pill or capsule is prescribed.

It definitely helps my play a lot, I find I always read more into what every player is trying to do and I can play marathon sessions on it. However there are some footnotes in my story I think. I always have been someone who has no problem staying up really all night and I find that taking a pill like that I stay up all night guaranteed and energized through the next day so I never ever take it two days in a row except finals week except for one occasion.

Just drink some coffee. Why do some of you even think about using this drug to play poker? Let's just say the first time you take this drug, you win big. You will be instantly hooked on this drug and you will have bigger problems in life than just a downswing in poker. Be very cautious before you even think about taking this drug.

i used to get adderrall for college. It felt so good like i was in the zone that i literally thought it was unethical. It's like the roids of academics. But in any case, when i got into poker, i'd say that it made me a lot more motivated to learn deeper levels of the game and thus accelerated my learning trajectory by a lot. Most of my best days were achieved by being on it.

But there side effects, well for me at least. It's questionable if i have ADD. I was diagnosed when i was 17, which was a few years ago, and because of my textbook symptoms, the psychiatrist immediately thought to prescribe the 'rall. It worked for my attention problems in school as demonstrated by the improvement in my grades. The medication itself is supposed to have a paradoxal effect on the ADD brain. Normal people (without neuro-chemical imbalances) are affected by the medication causing them to act manic or on a speed-high. Whereas, people w/ imbalances, are supposed to act calmer and be able to focus. I acted the latter. However, it's not exactly clear if i have ADD or Bipolar disorder, which both exhibit virtually the symptoms.

The dowside for me was i couldn't sleep, it affected my appetite, and i was very irritable when i suffered badbeats. I'd go absolutely berserk. I treated my friends differently while on it and i lost my personality. It could be possible that i did not take it responsibly by doing regular dosages and scheduled times at the day. I just used it when i needed it (i.e. studying for tests or putting in marathon sessions). Basically, the worst thing it did for my was intensify my emotions.

I'm off of it right now, not by choice. I don't have any medical insurance because i dropped out of college. Adderall kind of hurt my confidence because i thought i couldn't function without it. It enables me to be interested in stuff that normally would make me yawn. Right now, i'm doing something that i'm interested in a lot and so that's why i can function seemlessly wihtout it.

GL in your decision.

Unless you have a chemical imbalance I would strongly suggest that you don't take it regularly.

Id say adderall has a massive effect on my play. Before i started taking it couldnt concentrate at all, id be able to pay attention for like 5 minutes and then id drift, where as now i can play in solid focus for 2 hours at a time.

Anyone else use adderall that doesnt have adhd? I hear it works the opposite for people without adhd.

i can concentrate on poker but i cant concentrate for **** on school, i do pretty well but i wish i had more of a drive... like if i dont have a test i cant read a textbook or study, my mind just wonders immediately.... this is mostly due to lack of motivation and laziness but could this be valid to actually get a prescription of ritalin or adderal? i told my mom about it but she just said i was ****ing lazy... i really want to look into this (took a quarter of a pill with a buddy and read a weeks worth of school without hesitating/was really focused... just hope it wasnt a "oh im taking ritalin i should be doing homework now").

Sorry to hijack.

Is Poker a drug?

No.

As with any form of gambling, poker--like drugs--poses a potential addiction problem for some people. Poker shares this in common with drugs. However, to go from that to the formula: poker=drugs cannot be justified on literal grounds. On metaphorical grounds, any two things can be equated if the person doing the equating can weave an argument that sounds convincing enough. However, the power of someone able to make A appear to be identical with not/A is a function of their rhetorical power, not reality. Poker is not a drug.
