Dealing with tilt/quick fix

Let me just say off the bat that I never thought or planned to play poker for a living. It has always been something I enjoy for fun and a way to make some additional income. For the last year or so my game has totally tanked. Its been a combination of playing with money I don't really have (been looking for a steady job for the last year or so) and my love for the "quick fix" games like roulette and poker. I have had periods of playing decent poker but inevitably always blow up by trying to make huge bluffs or just going on tilt and not thinking straight. I am worried my game can never come back due to the fact that I am so caught up in games like craps where you can win big fast plus the fact that I have never been patient while playing. Any ideas on how I could go about changing my mindset would be appreciated. I know I can make some cash playing 1-2 and 2-5 because I did so in the past. Until I get my mind in the right place I don't think I will find the winning formula.

Re: Dealing with tilt/quick fix

unique problem...
(-insert tips: meditation, sport, eating healthy, improving social life, getting laid etc.)

when i seem to get tilted i simply focus on breathing. breath in, hold, breath out, hold.
as long as you breath slow, deep and concious, you wont have any fear.
fear causes tilt, the irrational fear of being a loser, only cause 0.001% of your poker-career seem to go in the wrong way (1 single day).

there are 2 types of players, those who have losing session, and those who know that your whole life is a game and dont give a **** about being down a single day.
(someone else said that more clearly, but even for a unique problem like yours... i dont search for the quote)

also, if you are smart, watch the movie "revolver". it might help you.

Re: Dealing with tilt/quick fix

Disassociate emotion from relatively random events. You're playing poker which has +EV and -EV plays but those are calculated on millions of trials. Ultimately you're gambling and no +EV play is set in stone even if your equity in the current situation is 99% forgone conclusion; you can still lose.

The best thing you can do is put in more work away from the table by analyzing hands, watching videos, and realizing life is random. We can sway the probability of an event in our favor but theres never a guarantee it will happen as planned.

The only thing you have control over is how well you play and react in a given situation. So in order to play your best you need practice and experience.
