Coolers: Do They Exist?
I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I know there are several casino staff people here and that is really who I was looking for feedback from.
Last night I was talking to my gf as I opened up a Stars donkament, and told her to wish me luck so that she would feel more a part of me playing poker. She did, then made a quip about being my lady luck. I had been thinking about this particular topic in regards to sports, because almost without exception every sporting event we have attended/watched together has ended with the team I was rooting for losing. It had occurred to me that she might simply be bad luck. I mentioned this to her, and she said that she had noticed that and thought she might make a good cooler. I told her I would look into it for a possible career path for her, and now here I am.
So my questions are:
Do coolers exist, and are they employed by casinos?
How do you go about getting this job? It doesn't seem like something they would advertise for.
If this has been discussed, are there any relevant links? I searched, but it didn't pull anything good.
Any good cooler stories?
Obviously we were joking, but it did make me interested in the topic. I will say that if I had two tickets to the LSU/OSU game I would not have taken her just in case.
Cliff notes: Coolers, are they real?

What do you think the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus do all year to earn money?

This one time at 2+2 camp, someone posted a question about coolers and if they exist. We all got a good LOL and made fun of the OP behind their back.

If I was dating Jessica Simpson, I would be ****ing her right now. Not posting on 2+2 and giving her the opportunity to say anything other than 'oooh' and 'that's it, right there'.

Yes coolers are real. I've been employed by several major casinos (whos names I won't mention) to be a professional cooler. My specialty is blackjack and craps, but I can cool a roulette wheel when called upon. Avg pay is around $60K starting plus benefits, but the real good coolers can make upwards of $100K. We have to chart how much $$ we're saving the casino, noting how much the patrons lose after we show up at the table. And we have to be discrete too of course, and not interact with the dealers and pit crew like we know them. Its a pretty good job, but not many people are cut out for it.
Have your girlfriend PM me I want to meet her and maybe I can get her a job... if she's good, we'll go far.
Good, er, Bad luck.. BB
edit, watch this movie to see how its done. I was a consultant on the film.

Re: Coolers: Do They Exist?
No joke -- I have learned something new about gambling lore from this thread.
OP: if you're serious, then you have to expect that you're going to get responses like this. I mean, I'm probably more open to the supernatural than most people on here (in that I actually believe God does miracles, stuff like that), but in general this site isn't a hospitable place for people who believe that external factors influence their luck.
But I don't think you're serious.

No one's that unlucky. Congratulations on the win.

Re: Coolers: Do They Exist?
I wasn't really serious about her becoming one, but I was intrigued by the topic.
I thought about it a bit more last night, and it seems to me that if luck can be quantifiably measured then it should follow that there will be people that are statistically more prone to be lucky or unlucky. But, I guess that's only as good as the initial condition that luck can be quantifiably measured.

Re: Coolers: Do They Exist?
I have several coolers made by a variety of manufacturers. So I know they do exist.
A more meaningful question might be:
Ice or synthetic cooling modules?
