This is so true. Players can and will get bent out of shape over the turn of a card. Maybe it's because they have too much of their net worth on the line, or maybe they are not experienced enough to deal with it. Either way, I think that if they are proactive and tell themselves that it's just a game over and over that sooner or later they may start to understand that the game doesn't owe them anything.
Yes, the spoiled entitled attitude is the problem. Famed golfer Bobby Jones had a great attitude on this, but hard to emulate. He was one of the greatest winners and sportsmanship guys ever. He said something like, "The tournament is not here for my glory. I am just one of the players. When I win, it's my glory. When someone else wins, it's their glory."
He lived that creed. Sort of the opposite of Phil Hellmuth who gets all bent out of shape when things don't smile on them. This is a very hard lesson for anyone, so I'm not just slamming Hellmuth. If there is one thing I admire most it is genuine sportsmanship, which is really just the opposite of immature egocentrism.
